Eddie Van Halen RIP
Eddie died aged 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, according to reports. The guitarist, who co-founded Van Halen, died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica on Tuesday with his wife, Janie by his side, along with his son Wolfgang and Alex, his brother. He had been battling cancer in secret for many years, believing it had been caused by putting his metal guitar picks in his mouth. TMZ reports that Eddie’s health had declined in the last 72 hours, with doctors discovering cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs.

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, and my honest gratitude for him sharing his incredible talent.

Eddie was a rock legend, one of the most exciting and creative artists to ever pick up an electric guitar and whose work inspired generations of young musicians. Eddie’s collaboration with Michael on Beat It for the album Thriller produced one of the most memorable guitar solos ever recorded, building to an exhilarating crescendo that still excites listeners nearly four decades later. Our thoughts are with Eddie’s family and friends.

wow this fucked me up. this man here had such a massive impact on me during my most formative years. when i was figuring out who i am, what i liked, what i didn’t like, my strengths, my weaknesses, bands like van halen, crüe, def leppard, etc were the soundtrack. thank you sir for forever changing the game of rock and roll. a true shredder, a true musician, a true legend. i will wear my VH tattoo with pride forever and always. rest in transition.
