January 31, 1968, "Big Boy" (also known as "I'm a Big Boy Now") is the debut single by the Jackson 5 and the first song sung by a nine-year-old Michael Jackson. "Big Boy" was released by Steeltown Records, a record company in Gary, Indiana, in January 1968. After it was released, the song played on radio stations in the Chicago-Gary area and was a local hit. Beginning in March 1968, Steeltown Records sold thousands of copies of "Big Boy" nationally through a distribution deal with Atlantic Records, but it was neither a critical nor commercial success. The Jackson family were delighted with the outcome nonetheless. The Jackson 5 would release a second single on the "Steeltown" label before signing with Motown Records in Detroit, on July 26, 1968.

The final night of "We Are The World" recording was held on January 28, 1985, at A&M Recording Studios in Hollywood. #MichaelJackson arrived at 8 pm, earlier than the other artists, to record his solo section and record a vocal chorus by himself. He was subsequently joined in the recording studio by the remaining USA for Africa artists, who included Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, and Tina Turner. Also in attendance were five of Jackson's siblings: Jackie, La Toya, Marlon, Randy, and Tito.
Many of the participants came straight from an American Music Award ceremony, which had been held that same night. Invited musician Prince, who would have had a part in which he and Michael Jackson sang to each other, did not attend the recording session. The reason given for his absence has varied.
In all, more than 45 of America's top musicians participated in the recording, and another 50 had to be turned away. Upon entering the recording studio, the musicians were greeted by a sign pinned to the door which read, "Please check your egos at the door."
They were also greeted by Stevie Wonder, who proclaimed that if the recording was not completed in one take, he and Ray Charles, two blind men, would drive everybody home.
Each of the performers took their position at around 10:30 pm and began to sing. Several hours passed before Stevie Wonder announced that he would like to substitute a line in Swahili for the "sha-lum sha-lin-gay" sound.
At this point, Waylon Jennings left the recording studio for a short time when it was suggested by some that the song be sung in Swahili. A heated debate ensued, in which several artists also rejected the suggestion. The "sha-lum sha-lin-gay" sound ran into opposition as well and was subsequently removed from the song.
Waylon Jennings returned to the studio and participated in the recording, which bears his name in the end credits. The participants eventually decided to sing something meaningful in English. They chose to sing the new line "One world, Our children", which most of the participants enjoyed.
In the early hours of the morning, two Ethiopian women, guests of Stevie Wonder, were brought into the recording studio, it had been decided that a portion of the proceeds raised would be used to bring aid to those affected by the recent famine in Ethiopia.
They thanked the singers on behalf of their country, bringing several artists to tears, before being led from the room. Stevie Wonder attempted to lighten the mood, by joking that the recording session gave him a chance to "see" fellow blind musician Ray Charles. "We just sort of bumped into each other!"
The solo parts of the song were recorded without any problems. The final version of "We Are the World" was completed at 8 am.
"We Are the World" is sung from a first person viewpoint, allowing the audience to "internalize" the message by singing the word we together. It has been described as "an appeal to human compassion".
The first lines in the song's repetitive chorus proclaim, "We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a brighter day, so let's start giving". "We Are the World" opens with Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, and Billy Joel singing the first verse.
Michael Jackson and Diana Ross follow, completing the first chorus together. Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, and Al Jarreau sing the second verse, before Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Daryl Hall go through the second chorus. Co-writer Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes follow with the song's bridge.
This structuring of the song is said to "create a sense of continuous surprise and emotional buildup". "We Are the World" concludes with Bob Dylan and Ray Charles singing a full chorus, Wonder and Springsteen duetting, and ad libs from Ray Charles and James Ingram.
Let's not forget the musical genius behind the scene who make part of Michael Jackson's studio recording as following :
Instrument players • John Barnes – keyboards & arrangement • David Paich – synthesizers • Michael Boddicker – synthesizers, programming • Ian Underwood - synthesizers, programming • Paulinho da Costa – percussion • Louis Johnson – synth bass • Michael Omartian – keyboards • Greg Phillinganes – keyboards • John Robinson – drums
The song was released on March 7, 1985, as the first single from the album by Columbia Records. A worldwide commercial success, topping music charts throughout the world and becoming the fastest-selling U.S. pop single in history. The first ever single to be certified multi-platinum, "We Are the World" received a Quadruple Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Awarded numerous honors, including three Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, and a People's Choice Award, the song was promoted with a critically received music video, a VHS, a special edition magazine, a simulcast, and several books, posters, and shirts. The promotion and merchandise aided the success of "We Are the World" and raised over $63 million (equivalent to $147 million today) for humanitarian aid in Africa and the US.

February 13th, 2015. Tom Mesereau talked briefly about #MichaelJackson 10th anniversary 2005 trial. The trial began on February 28, 2005 in the courthouse of Santa Maria, Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara County Judge Rodney Melville presided over the trial. The trial spanned approximately four months, beginning with jury selection that began on January 31, 2005.
The jury deliberated for about 32 hours over seven days. On the initial vote, nine jurors voted to acquit Michael Jackson, while three voted guilty. On June 13, 2005, they returned a verdict of not guilty on all charges.
Jurors found the prosecution's case weak and the timeline of accusations problematic because they had claimed the molestation occurred after the broadcast of the documentary when the world's attention was on Michael Jackson and Gavin. One juror believed the mother was a scam artist.

March 1, 1988, on occasion of the United Negro College Fund's 44th dinner at a press conference organized by his sponsor, Pepsi, in Manhattan, New York, he offered UNCF’s President and CEO, Christopher Edley a check for 600,000 dollars, the entire grossings from his private sold-out benefit concert held at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the 42 UNCF institutions, including Fisk University, making him one of "UNCF"s most significant donators. The event featured children reading their dreams and wishes. Michael received an honoring graduation from the UNCF.

February 16th, 1997. #MichaelJackson arrived as Liz's escort at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and sat next to her the whole time. Michael was making his first appearance since the birth of his first son Prince whose godmother is Elizabeth Taylor.
Michael Jackson performed a song " Elizabeth, I Love You", which was written especially for the occasion. as a tribute to Elizabeth Taylor for her AIDS benefit concert entitled ′′ Happy Birthday Elizabeth ′′. Michael gave a distinctly rare performance with his usual pyrotechnics, props or supporting actors, with the exception of a child actress who appeared at the beginning of the number representing Elizabeth Taylor as a little girl.
Elizabeth Taylor, soon to undergo surgery for a brain tumour, celebrated her 65 th birthday in her characteristic glamour at a gala event ′′ Happy Birthday Elizabeth - A Celebration of Life ′′ at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, with a star-studded cast of supporters.
The homage celebration was broadcasted on February 27, 1997 by ABC - TV.

.February 19, 1994. #MichaelJackson and the entire Jackson family (except LaToya) gathered for the special service ′′ Jackson Family Honors ′′ at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
His date for the evening was Lisa Marie Presley. When Michael took the stage to present two lifetime achievement awards to the honorees of the night, Berry Gordy, founder of the Motown label, and Elizabeth Taylor.
He gave a standing ovation of almost 5 minutes to a crowd of 12,000 fans ... He had this to say as he introduced his good friend...′′Today we honor Elizabeth Taylor for who she is, as much as what she does. For me, Elizabeth Taylor is the ultimate humanitarian, because she is the embodiment of love, compassion, faith and integrity and she has been that ideal for hundreds and millions of fans over the five decades of her illustrious career.
Elizabeth began her career when she was nine years old and since then she has starred in some of the best American movies. She has been and continues to be one of the most celebrated women of the 20th century. I know, having the honor of being a friend of Elizabeth Taylor, that she does not need another trophy or plaque to recognize her humanitarian work in the name of the fight against AIDS.
And I also know that Elizabeth is here tonight not for selfish satisfaction, but because it gives her another chance to get the important message out to the public. The message of AIDS awareness and the need for compassion and efforts to find a cure. When AMFAR was formed in 1986 and its own Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation was formed, no one did more to fight this dreaded disease.
But knowing Elizabeth, I know that her reward comes from the work herself, from the small battles she won in the total war, from the gains she was responsible for eliminating the problem the world sees, and from the unspoken things of the victims that are lives she improved during their time on earth. In the midst of my recent trials and tribulations, Elizabeth was by my side with unwavering strength and support. Elizabeth stands up for the truth. She is immune to criticism and insensitive to any challenge and places the highest truth in the wisdom of her own heart and the direct knowledge of her own intuition. She is not influenced by public opinion, because she knows in the end that truth always triumphs.
Elizabeth, I love you and we honor you not only for what you stand for, but also for the magnificence of who you are. The world is a better place because of your existence. Because Elizabeth is so selfless in her devotion to humanity, it is doubly fitting that she is the recipient of the Jackson Family Honors Award."
Michael also joined his family in the final performing " If You Only Believe ".
The 1994 television special reunited Jackson family members in Las Vegas. Jackson handed out two awards and sang a group song with his family.
Producers claimed they lost $1.7 million after relying on a promise by Jermaine Jackson that his younger brother would perform solo. Michael Jackson testified that he had never planned to perform, merely to present awards.
A production company is willing to let a federal judge decide its breach of contract lawsuit over the ``Jackson Family Honors″ TV special, which flopped after Michael Jackson did not perform solo.
Juror confusion led U.S. District Judge Laughlin Waters to declare a mistrial Thursday, following last week’s convoluted verdict in Smith-Hemion Productions’ suit against the Jackson family.
An attorney for Smith-Hemion said his client would be willing to submit the case to the judge.
Michael Jackson’s attorney Zia Modabber said he couldn’t agree to that until he contacted his client, who is on tour ( History Tour ) and out of the country.
The case plunged into chaos last week when one juror said she voted in favor of the plaintiffs simply to end deliberations, which began Sept. 16, 1996. Another juror apparently misunderstood the legal concept of punitive damages. ( AP source )

In June 2009, Michael's friend and son of legend Marlon Brando, Miko Brando, said:
"... He loved his fans. I've lived with many big movie stars, but Michael's fans are more than just fans... He knew his fans, had done it and he wouldn't want to leave anyone out. Wherever he went, fans were there... He told me fans always knew what he was doing.
I don't think anyone had fans like him. So Michael would like a funeral that includes his fans and makes them happy. He would like to say: I am still with you and we will be together forever. He was happy and wanted to make everyone around him happy. In the end, she just wanted love. In the end, Michael was Love himself!"

#OnThisDay "diana" was broadcast on CBS on March 2, 1981 at 10 pm. Advertisements appeared a few days earlier in TV program magazines such as TV Guide Magazine on February 28, 1981.
During fifty minutes, the program took again the greatest successes of the ex-leader of the Supremes, by alternating interpretations recorded in studios and extracts of the concert of the diva at the Forum of Inglewood (Los Angeles) on February 5, 1981.
Directed by Steve Binder, with Buz Kohan also on the credits, the show of and with Diana Ross welcomes some famous guests
Diana and Michael have had a long history of friendship dating back to the early days of the Jackson 5 since 1969. All along Michael's career they found themselves.
Relating on the set of The Wiz in 1978 in New York City, and of course, when Diana, during her concert at the Forum, evoked the stars she has rubbed shoulders with during her career, Michael Jackson, "My Baby", as she calls him, is inevitably present. The sequence also served as an introduction to Michael's first studio performance of Rock With You.
"He calls me D, I call him Q", explained Diana Ross as she welcomes Quincy Jones to the Forum stage. The opportunity to integrate a studio sequence with the trio from the film The Wiz, Michael and Diana singing "Ease On Down The Road", and Quincy performing on the piano.
At the end of the performance, Diana Ross and Michael Jackson are talking...
"I knew you would become a huge star," Diana told Michael.
"Oh thank you," he replied.
"But what I didn't know was that you'd be so sexy," added Diana, facing Michael embarrassed.
"It's embarrassing," he said, before adding, "But I always knew that.
"What?" the singer replied.
"That you were sexy" and turned to the audience: "Do you think she's sexy ?".
The audience approved and applauded and of course Michael !

March 6, 2001. #MichaelJackson gave a very touching and moving speech at the Oxford Union University in London. Why did Michael Jackson visit the Oxford Union to talk about child welfare ?
The singer who grew up a Motown star broke his foot just days before he was due to speak at the historic debating chamber. But the Thriller superstar promised fans the injury would not stop him making his speech on child welfare at the union on Tuesday, March 6. About 500 people attended.
More than 20,000 Michael fans applied to see his speech at the Oxford Union and hundreds packed St Michael's Street outside and nearby Cornmarket during the afternoon before he arrived, filling the city centre with deafening chants of "King of Pop".
They waited around for hours before the legend arrived under an umbrella with his entourage, which included the illusionist Uri Geller and Rabbi Shmuley Boteach.
It was a memorable night for those who got to stand just a few feet away from Michael Jackson outside the union and for those inside who got to hear his speech, in which he insisted every child had the right to a bedtime story.
At the time the singer was chairman of the Heal The Kids foundation which aimed to "take action on child welfare issues at both global and local levels".
The 42-year-old, who was famed for his Moonwalk dance, had fractured a bone in his foot in a fall at his home, the Neverland Valley Ranch in California but he insisted on making the trip to Oxford to meet his commitments.
It is understood that following the talk he was driven to Blenheim Palace where he enjoyed a lavish meal.
When Michael Jackson died in 2009 students at the Oxford Union said they planned to stage a memorial talk with celebrity guests in his honour.

March 8th, 2007. #MichaelJackson attended a Premium VIP party at Shin Kiba Studio Coast for guests who have forked out up to $3,500 (£1,800) for a chat lasting 30 seconds to a minute.
Fans of more modest means can catch up with Michael Jackson
the following day, when he will eat brunch and have photos taken
with the winners of a "fan art" competition.
Michael Jackson's handlers in Japan refused to say how much the singer would be paid for his efforts and insisted that aesthetics, not finances, were uppermost in his mind.
"Over the years, as Michael Jackson has performed in cities around the world, he has been pleased, honoured, and impressed by the large amount of fan art of him," organiser Broderick Morris told the Associated Press.
"He would like to meet fan artists, and more fully appreciate and enjoy their creative expressions."
It is the second time Michael Jackson has turned to his loyal Japanese following for support since he was acquitted in June 2005. He last visited the country in May 2006, when he accepted the Legend Award from MTV Japan.
Michael Jackson, who has spent most of his time living overseas since his acquittal, has called Japan is "one of my favourite places in the entire world".
He was mobbed by hundreds of screaming fans on his arrival at Tokyo's Narita Airport on Sunday and again earlier this week, when he turned up at one of Tokyo's biggest electronics stores for a late-night shopping binge.
Bic Camera closed its doors as usual at 10pm but allowed Michael Jackson the freedom of the store until half past midnight. That did not stop hundreds of fans from waiting outside for the singer, who waved to them before being whisked away in a van.
Earlier this year he said: "My fans in Japan helped me achieve historic milestones in the music industry."

March 13, 1976. The Jackson family remained under contract to Motown until March 1976. Motown sued them for breach of contract but allowed the group to record for Epic, as long as they changed their name because Motown owned the name Jackson5. The brothers thus renamed themselves The Jacksons.
By 1975, most of the Jacksons opted out of recording any more music for Motown, desiring creative control and royalties after learning that they were earning only 2.8% of royalties from Motown.
The Jacksons announced their conclusion to depart from Motown at a press conference at the Rainbow Grill in Manhattan, New York City.
Joe Jackson then began negotiating to have the group sign a lucrative contract with another company, settling for Epic Records, which had offered a royalty rate of 20% per record, he signed with the company in June 1975.
Absent from the deal was Jermaine Jackson, who decided to stay with Motown following his marriage to Hazel Gordy, and Randy Jackson replaced him. Even though Randy was part of the Jackson 5 at his early age.
Here in picture The Jackson 5 became officially on this day in 1976
The Jacksons, standing (L-R) Tito, Randy, Michael, Marlon and Jackie Jackson. Seated (L-R) Joe Jackson, Leon Huff, Kenneth Gamble – Gamble’s Office at Philadelphia International Records.
Following the debut of the family's weekly variety series, the Jacksons released their self-titled CBS debut under the Philadelphia International subsidiary, produced by Gamble & Huff.

March 16, 2002. #MichaelJackson was best man on Liza Minelli and David Gest wedding in New York. He arrived with Liz Taylor and Diana Ross.
"The King of Pop introduced Gest, the producer of two special concerts and a TV special commemorating the 30th anniversary of Jackson becoming a solo artist, to Minnelli in 2001.
But Liza was smitten. She had decided to get well, she said, and made some progress — that’s why Gest hired her to perform in Jackson’s 30th anniversary celebration before they were together. Still, she found the impresario gave her a much-needed boost.
“I’m the kind of woman who can only go so far without someone saying, ‘Come on, you can make it,'” she told “The View” in 2002. “And that’s what David did. He said, ‘You can do anything.'”
“She’s the most beautiful woman in the world,” Gest said he thought at their wedding, an elaborate, star-studded affair that Donald Trump declared “the best” he had ever attended. “And that this is who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.”
“I was already set for life when I met her,” he said. “I had just done a Michael Jackson 30th anniversary celebration. We did well over $20 million. And we owned that, Michael and I. She was, as she said in interviews, basically broke. So I didn’t marry her for anything that she could give me as far as financially. I just loved the woman. I mean, I just loved her, unconditionally loved her.”

March 18, 1997. 12 members jury in Santa Maria Court , California , sided with #MichaelJackson and six other defendants after six month long civil trial that began in September 1996.
Michael’s attorney for the case, Steve Cochrane, added, “We’re happy to be finally and fully vindicated.”
The jury ruled that he did not wrongfully terminate, harass, or threaten five former employees at his Neverland Valley Ranch. One of the jurors, Lorie Durnin, said the plaintiffs “lost their credibility when they went to the tabloids” and sold their stories. Jackson ’s lawyer, Zia Modabber, said the evidence proved the plaintiffs were nothing more than “people trying to capitalize on Michael’s fame.”

March 17th, 2006. #MichaelJackson and his children left Neverland with the advices of his attorney Tom Mesereau.
Michael Jackson was already in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain and a statement was sent by Raymone K. Bain that day..." It is public knowledge that Mr. Jackson currently resides in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain. He therefore decided to close his house and reduce his workforce. This is a common practice when a residence is vacant for an extended period of time. Reports indicating that Neverland has been closed or 'shut down' for good are inaccurate. There will be no further comments regarding this matter."

March 31, 2000. #MichaelJackson
accompanied by his children, Prince and Paris, visited this largest
private zoo in Europe on Friday, after its closure.
The Tierpark Hagenbeck is a zoological park, founded in 1907 by Carl Hagenbeck, located in Hamburg, northern Germany. The zoo was one of the first to recreate the natural environment of animals. They live together as in the wild, like the elephants, the stars of the park.
Michael Jackson and his children visited the zoo with Joachim Weinlig, the zoo director and member of the Hagenbeck family business. He recalls the moment:
"I wasn't really a Michael Jackson fan, but it's a moment I won't forget. Until the last moment, we wondered if it was really him who was going to come. And on Friday evening, at 5:30 pm, after the zoo closed, cars with tinted windows arrived. Michael was there, with his children and bodyguards.
He was thin, a scarf covered his head and he wore dark glasses and a leather jacket.
The visit lasted two hours. Michael was particularly drawn to Mogli, an elephant whom he fed carrots and stroked her trunk."
In this photo, Michael is posing with the elephant, the keeper Thomas Moderegger and the director of the animal park Joachim Weinlig-Hagenbeck.
"We also visited the monkey house. The orangutans were quite nervous at the sight of an unusual visitor," the director continued. "Michael and the kids also saw the coatis, pelicans, leopards, polar bears, elk, zebras and the famous Antje walrus."
Zoo spokeswoman Tanja Königshagen said the children were not frightened by the animals.
"They were fascinated by the zoo," said Joachim Weinlig-Hagenbeck. "Michael had incredible charisma and he was very nice. He wasn't the temperamental star I had been told he was. I was impressed with his knowledge of animals."
Michael left his signature in the zoo's guest book and also made a sizable donation, before walking away as quietly as he had arrived. "They had a great time," the director concluded.

April 8th, 1991. Michael Jackson organised a seat chimp party to raise money for Jane Goodall’s ape research institute.
Since she first stepped foot in the forest of Gombe National Park, Tanzania, in 1960, Dr. Jane Goodall has given the world an extraordinary window into the lives of our closest living relatives. Her discoveries at Gombe rocked the scientific world, and made us question our assumptions not only about chimpanzees, but humanity itself.
Founded in 1965, today the Gombe Stream Research Center is home to the longest-running field research on chimpanzees and remains a world-class research station that uses the best available methods to advance innovative science, support conservation, train Tanzanian scientists, and further develop the long-term primate research and investigation started by Dr. Jane Goodall. This research has proved integral to our understanding of chimpanzees and of early humans, as well as modern human behavior and health.
Continuing the legacy of Gombe research is essential to our understanding of chimpanzees, their conservation needs, and the efficacy of our strategies to save them.

Re: On this day

Messaggio da soulmum » 11 aprile 2021, 8:23

We are on April 11, 1999 and
#MichaelJackson stays in London with his friend Mohamed Al Fayed for a weekend, during which we will see him attending a game of Fulham Football Club. Not surprisingly, a group of fans is present near the hotel where he stays and hopes for a sign from him.
Around 11pm, their patience finally pays off as Michael Jackson himself, accompanied only by two bodyguards, quietly walks towards them.
The scene is surreal to say the least since there is at this moment no hysteria, no movement of crowd: the bodyguards wish to make sure that each fan can benefit from a small moment in face to face with his idol.
So they asked the group to line up in single file. The artist, dressed all in black and wearing his traditional mask that he often wore at the time, started shaking hands, hugging fans, taking pictures, signing autographs and chatting with everyone in complete discretion. He even agreed to take a few phone calls, grabbing the cell phones that were handed to him and exchanging a few words with correspondents that one can easily imagine being speechless. These exchanges lasted for almost half an hour and then the magic moment seemed to end when Skipper Nagin, one of the two bodyguards, announced that the star had to leave to make an important phone call.
As Michael Jackson walked away, the fans started to follow him; he promised to come back soon, waved, did a dance and left. Some of those present feared that this was just a ploy by the security service so that he could go to bed without starting a riot; just before he left, he had been seen whispering a few words in his bodyguard's ear while laughing.
But this was without counting on Michael Jackson's loyalty to his public. Shortly after, the artist returned and settled on the steps of the building for an impromptu interview. Standing on the stairs, he exclaims "I feel like I'm on stage". It is dark. Are we in a dream or in reality? The fans are invited to raise their fingers and ask their idol all the questions that come to mind. In the deepest mutual respect, the artist spends more than 15 minutes answering them.
Asked about his family and friends, he tells that Liz Taylor is fine and that they regularly go to the movies together on Thursdays, that Debbie appreciates her role of mother... and that he could not reveal pictures of his daughter Paris because she was the subject of death threats. He admits that he would like to be able to share with his fans pictures of his children but explains calmly that he wants above all to protect them from danger and curiosity of the press. He confided that he would like to raise them "somewhere other than America" and burst into spontaneous laughter. Fans immediately suggested that he move to England, but he replied that despite his love for the country, the press there was "too mean" to him (obviously, journalists were present when he made these remarks, because shortly afterwards, rumors appeared in the celebrity press of the time claiming that Michael Jackson wanted to "put his children in a boarding school in England").
Michael Jackson confided to his fans that he had given up the idea of investing in casino projects and that he did not gamble himself. Inevitably, some people ask him to sing, which he refuses, claiming a laryngitis and explaining that he is just in London to take a break from his schedule. However, he announced to his fans that he is working hard on his new album (which will become "Invincible") and that he has composed about 70 songs. He also mentions a project of album with his brothers and a participation in the album of his nephews, the 3T.
He admits that he doesn't want to tour again and that he would rather focus on movies, but he hasn't lost his love for records. When a fan asks him why he never gave a concert at the foot of the pyramids, in Egypt, he retorts that he asked several times to know if it was possible but that the government refused to authorize more than 8000 spectators to go on the site: "it is not enough", he would have exclaimed while laughing.
Around midnight, after final hugs, Michael Jackson finally returned to his room, leaving a handful of fans to go to bed with their eyes full of stars...

April 23, 1986. #MichaelJackson escorted Elizabeth Taylor at Hollywood Park in Inglewood. it was the opening day of the season, they were present together another time.
Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor will be seen at Hollywood Park three times. Elizabeth was a member of the Turf Club at the track and owned a horse that competed. First time, they are seen on Christmas Day 1985 for the closing of that year's horse racing season
The newspapers talked about their arrival and presented them as a couple. The Los Angeles Times, on April 25, wrote: ′′ The season opener at Hollywood Park on Wednesday highlighted all the potential winners, including this year's really fun couple, the devastatingly skinny and cute Elizabeth Taylor and her friend, the elegant and stylish, Michael Jackson.."
Michael Jackson's friendship with Elizabeth Taylorgli brought him closer to an environment where Michael could never have entered.
In the mid-1980s, the two stars developed a friendship that would last a lifetime. Since 1985, they have been regularly seen together at official events or caught by the paparazzi on private trips.
Elizabeth Taylor was a horse lover since she was a baby. Her mother gave her riding lessons when she was little but this passion remained.
The Hollywood legend actress will always maintain a link with the horse races. she will frequently show up at horse races all over the world.
At the end of 1985, Elizabeth Taylor introduced Michael Jackson for the first time on a track, the famous Hollywood Park of Inglewood, very close to the Forum of Los Angeles.
Hollywood Park Racetrak was opened in 1938 and was quickly followed by Hollywood celebrities. The president was Jack L. Warner, the chairman of Warner Bros. Among the shareholders were Walt Disney, Al Jolson, Ronald Colman, Bing Crosby, Sam Goldwyn and Darryl Zanuck.
Closed since December 2013, the track hosted one of the most famous horse races on the West Coast, the Hollywood Gold Cup.

The singer #MichaelJackson was hospitalized tonight with burns of the scalp after an accidental explosion set fire to his hair during the filming of a commercial, a spokesman said.
On January 27, 1984, Michael and his brothers were doing just that. It didn’t go well: At the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, in front of an audience of 3,000, assembled to create the concert environment, Michael was dancing to his hit “Billie Jean.” During the sixth take for the commercial, he apparently veered too close to a pyrotechnics display, which had gone off a bit too early. He was set ablaze by the fireworks, suffering second-degree burns to his scalp and losing some of his hair. His jacket also caught on fire.
The explosion about 6:30 P.M. was in material being used to create smoke effects for a concert scene in a Pepsi- Cola commercial.
''Something went wrong and it exploded and Michael's hair caught on fire,'' said John Branca, a spokesman for Mr. Jackson.
Jackson’s brothers quickly helped to extinguish the flames and Michael seen by his fans with his scalp glowing and smoke billowing from his head. Following the incident, Jackson—his head bandaged and seen smiling even as he was in pain—was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. There he was treated and declared out of mortal danger, but the singer was then transferred by ambulance to Brotman Memorial Hospital Burn Center in Culver City, California. It was later determined that the pomade Jackson used in his hair was the culprit, catching fire when he neared the fireworks.
(A spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department said no one else was been injured in the incident.)
(Larry Baum, a spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said Mr. Jackson had been admitted to the hospital with ''second-degree burns on his skull,'' but had apparently not suffered any facial burns. ''His condition is stable and he's doing well,'' Mr. Baum said. He added that Mr. Jackson was to be transferred to a special burn unit at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City.)
The accident occurred at the Shrine Auditorium as Mr. Jackson was coming to the front of the stage, singing a jingle to the tune of his hit song ''Billie Jean,'' said Margaret Watkins of Fullerton, who was watching the filming from the fifth row.
''There were canisters that let off smoke, they pop and they smoke,'' she said. ''His hair caught on fire. He grabbed his head and they put water on him and took him off stage.'' Mr. Jackson, 25 years old, won eight Americian Music awards Jan. 16 and is nominated for 12 Grammy awards. His latest record album, ''Thriller,'' has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most successful albums in history.

May 12, 1993. #MichaelJackson participated in the 5th edition of the World Music Awards in the Principality of Monaco, in Monte-Carlo.
"Set in the glamorous locale of Monaco, the 1993 World Music Awards appeared to be more of an excuse to lure the well-to-do to the famous playground than a bona fide awards show. Although the international flavor provided glimpses at music that is popular outside the United States, program’s blandness could explain why the five-year-old ceremony has never before been broadcast on American TV.
Taped during May 12 ceremonies at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, the awards honor best-selling artists as determined by the Intl. Federation of the Phonographic Industry in all countries except Germany, Italy and Spain, where winners are selected by a trio of music magazines.
Michael Jackson’s pair of awards, for best-selling world and American recording artist of the year, were met with the expected standing ovation. The IFPI also created an award for Jackson, labeling him the world’s best-selling artist of the era.
Carpenters at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch must be on golden time building cabinets to house all these never-before-presented awards that he seems to be acquiring lately." #variety
Greeted by a standing ovation, Michael Jackson won two more prestigious awards than this event:
1) Best American Artist of the Year.
2) Best Recording Artist of the Year in the World.
Michael Jackson also won the third special award, created that year by Prince Albert of Monaco and the Phonographic Industry, IFPI, in Michael's honor; World Best Selling Recording Artist of The Era

May 14, 1984, Ronald Reagan invited #MichaelJackson
to the White House to present him with the Presidential Public Safety Communication Award for allowing “Beat It” to be used in a public service announcement against drinking and driving. With most legends in their respective fields gone, this video is far too good to be neglected.
Michael Jackson's visit to the Reagan White House in 1984. "Well, isn't this a thriller," Reagan began his remarks.
So many reporters and White House staff wanted to see Jackson, Reagan said "I haven't seen this many people since we left China."
Reagan called Jackson: "one of the most talented, most popular, and most exciting super stars in the music world today."
Reagan told Jackson he had a message for him from young folks: "They said to tell Michael, Please give some TLC to the PHYs."
(pretty young things)
Reagan also urged Jackson to make Washington part of his next tour. "...we want you back," said Reagan.
Reagan said: "Michael, you've made it possible for us to warn millions of young Americans about the dangers of drinking and driving."
Reagan commended Jackson saying he's "proof of what a person can accomplish through a lifestyle free of alcohol or drug abuse."
Reagan said with Jackson's help, U.S. can face problem of drinking and driving and "beat it."
Michael Jackson's only words at that White House event: "I'm very, very honored. Thank you very much, Mr. President and Mrs. Reagan."

May 15, 1995. #MichaelJackson and Janet Jackson started the shooting of the 4:46 minute music video for "Scream". The video was choreographed by Travis Payne, LaVelle Smith Jr, Tina Landon and Sacha Lucashenko in May 1995, and Sean Cheesman, directed by Mark Romanek, with the production being designed by Tom Foden.
Michael Jackson did not create the "concept" for the video, which
he had often done in the past, but left it to Romanek. Michael Jackson later described the making of "Scream" as a collaborative effort.
The song and its accompanying video are a response to the backlash Michael Jackson received from the media in 1993. "Scream" was a worldwide hit. In the U.S. it was the first song in the 37-year history of Billboard to debut at number five; however that would be its peak position.

May 15, 1988. #MichaelJackson Moonwalk's autobiography debuted first on the New York Times bestseller list. Here in picture Shay Arehart, Michael Jackson and
Jackie O behind the scenes of Thriller.
Here's what Jackie said about Michael. A brief note that preceded
the book Moonwalk in 1988 :
“What can anyone say about Michael Jackson? He is one of the most acclaimed artists, an innovative and exciting author of songs whose dance seems to defy gravity, a follower of some like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
Your audience may not be aware of the extent of your dedication to your craft. Restless, rarely satisfied, he is a perfectionist who constantly challenges himself.
To many people Michael Jackson seems like a deceptive personality, but to those who work with him, he is not. This talented artist is a sensitive, warm, funny and very perceptive man.
Michael's book “Moonwalk” offers a brilliant glimpse of the artist at work and the artist in reflection. ” - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
According to Lawrence's book, Jackie was very reluctant to write these notes - (nothing against Michael; she just didn't like doing that - for anyone). She would have agreed only after Michael's repeated requests to write it.
When I read the article, this note stood out :
"Jackie had to endure Michael's eccentricities for four years before his 1988 memoir, Moonwalk, was finally published." - Greg Lawrence.
Here is the whole real situation : Michael Jackson, who agreed only after much persuasion, to open up and tell the story of his life to the world, invites the elegant ex-first lady to his home - to his world. He's teeming with ideas about the book. He wants it to be a picture book (Doubleday agrees to consider that). He is thrilled to have someone he admires so much at his home. He wants to talk about his art, his music, his dance, his prizes and achievements (brag about what he has achieved in his short life!) Meanwhile, Jackie is disconnecting from him and, she is looking at the decoration of the house, the statues, his pets - and whether or not he has a girlfriend. ''
Unfortunately, this type of account is what would become the standard in Michael Jackson's life - from Jackie Onassis, to Oprah Winfrey, to Martin Bashir.
While it may seem that I am defending Michael, this is not the case; Michael was not always an angel throughout the four-year project. He often made last-minute demands that were impossible to meet; at one point, just before the book was ready to be printed, he suddenly decided to end the entire project.
Apparently, he was in a panic, fearing that the book would leave him too exposed. Again, it took persuasion to convince him to change his mind.
In fact, it may even be a credit to Jackie that, although his own motives may have been financial, she encouraged him to find Jackson's trust. Although he remained a very private person until the end of his life, writing the book may have paved the way for a kind of catharsis. In the years that followed, for example, he became much more open and honest about his childhood abuse, and I think it was probably healthy for him to be able to discuss these topics openly.
After finding the Vanity Fair article, I did more research to find out a little more about this “reluctant partnership” between the king of pop and the former first lady. Well, lo and behold, you don't know, there is one more book - William Kuhn's Reading Jackie , published by none other than Doubleday !
And, apparently, there is an entire section dedicated to the Moonwalk project, judging by this extensive excerpt from The Daily Beast :
"Actually, they both spoke the same way," recalls Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner . Michael Jackson spoke "in the same breathless voice" that Jackie sometimes used. However, it was not Jackson's idea to approach Jackie about editing his autobiography, which became Moonwalk in 1988. Nor was it the type of project that Jackie would have proposed to do on his own. Bill Barry recalled that Jackson's autobiography took Jackie "to the side of profit". The journalist Hillel Italie described the book as the “classic celebrity project”, because it was not designed by Jackson himself. Instead, it was an idea that originated at Doubleday, and Jackie agreed to sponsor. One of Doubleday's unspoken expectations was that the publisher would support the most speculative books and that it could generate significant profits.
In the mid-1980s, Jackie and [his assistant editor] Shay Arehart flew to Encino, California, to find Jackson, which she rarely did for book writers.
Arehart reports a version of that encounter written in a new edition of Moonwalk, released in 2009 after Jackson's unexpected death. According to Arehart, Jackie and Jackson got along well. Jackie attended the first meeting with Jackson in Encino in 1983, but it was Arehart who had to keep working when the project turned out to be a problem. On their first date, Jackson took Arehart and Jackie to his nearby trailer during filming of the short film "Thriller", and there they discussed what the book might be like.
Michael Jackson suggested some kind of photo book with text, and both editors at Doubleday were eager to take that as an idea. It was in his trailer that Jackson asked Jackie to write a preface and she agreed.
However, she also wanted something unusual about him: telling something about her life in the spotlight. Arehart realized that he was enthusiastic about fixing several rumors about his life, but he also felt a certain fear. Some things he wanted to keep private.
Arehart found that writing a book was less interesting to him than making music, and that delayed the release. When the first writer assigned to write the text gave up, Arehart became more actively involved. She flew to California with a tape recorder to record Jackson's answers to questions about her life and career. However, she had a full-time job in New York and eventually handed her material over to a second writer, Stephen Davis, who wrote books about Bob Marley and Led Zeppelin. He took the recorded material and turned it into narration.
At this point, Jackson was on a tour of Asia [Bad World Tour], and Arehart had to fly to Australia for the text to be approved. He didn't have time to read it, so she read it line by line for two weeks in 1987, taking notes of the changes.
When they were finished, Arehart flew to Los Angeles so Jackson could approve Doubleday's promotion plans - at that point, Jackson decided he didn't want the book to be published. After so much time and effort, the book was ready to be sent to the printer - the refusal shocked Doubleday employees. Arehart thought the coup occurred because Jackson suddenly felt "terribly unprotected", because he had never done that before. In the end, after persuading him, he relented, and Moonwalk immediately topped the New York Times bestseller list, as well as worldwide.
The image that really emerges is that of a publisher and a publisher driven by the need for profits at the expense of a young artist.
Ultimately, Michael Jackson's autobiography is the epitome of his naivete. The naivety of being led to believe that it really could be considered equal in the eyes of the public. Unfortunately, Michael seemed to have the impression that this project could open the door to something he desperately needed more than a best-selling book - a true friendship.
For Jackie, he was obviously nothing more than a bag of money for Doubleday.
After finishing this article, I went back to my copy of Moonwalk . I remembered that in the reprinted edition there is a new testimony by Shay Arihart. Arihart describes one of the visits she and Jackie Onassis made to Havenhurst. Michael showed them to his room :
“… We talked and tasted the food that Mrs. Jackson had prepared for us, and then Michael asked if we would like to see the property. We saw his trophies and posters, gold records and lots of pictures of him with people like Fred Astaire, James Brown and Elizabeth Taylor and, well, apparently, everyone who was somebody in 1983. Michael didn't boast about it, but you could say he was proud - a little boy from Gary, Indiana who revolutionized the world !
We visited a gigantic terrarium. Jackie and I looked at the beautiful birds in awe, suddenly Michael with a sweet smile says, "Here, Shay, do you want to hold Muscles?" A beautiful boa walked in his arms. I took it, it looked like wet silk and, to my great surprise, it started to move. Michael defensively picked up the snake with a disappointed expression on his face. It was only much later that I realized that he was waiting - my scream of fear. ''
Arehart's account paints a completely contradictory picture of Lawrence's stories. As I mentioned before, this was a young man who was proud of his achievements and was eager to be loved and accepted by Mrs. Onassis and her associates. It is sad to think that after these visits, the best Jackie could think of was to ask if he was gay and to comment on the furniture in his house.
