The estate can be maddening in promoting MJ's artistry.
The full-length, HQ version of Ghosts (MJ's master thesis) proved immensely popular. Millions of views and legions of new fans first discovering it. But alas, now it is gone.
I see no reason to make Ghosts seasonal-only.

Michael Jackson

As one of the most imaginative audio engineers to ever walk into a recording studio, Bruce Swedien was involved in the creation of some of the most memorable moments for music’s most iconic artists. His contribution to Michael Jackson’s sound was invaluable, earning him Grammys for the Thriller, Bad and Dangerous albums. Moreover, Bruce’s professional collaboration with Michael became a close friendship they both cherished. Bruce was a kind, generous soul who as he grew older continued to share his knowledge of his craft with younger generations. He will be missed by all whose lives and careers he touched. Our thoughts are with his wife Bea and his daughter Roberta and their extended family at this difficult time.

Today, we remember Freddie Mercury. Back in the ‘80s, he and Michael recorded “There Must Be More To Life Than This” but the duet wasn’t actually released until 2014. “Some of my favorite times were cooking for Michael Jackson on Thanksgiving. It was one of his favorite meals. Sometimes he requested it when it wasn’t even the holiday, so while on tour with him, I would always bring a few cans of cranberries in my traveling pantry.” - Akasha Richmond, Chef/Owner/Caterer
Akasha fondly remembers cooking Thanksgiving dinners for Michael and the crew while on tour in Australia. She now remembers him by playing Michael's music all day long the day before Thanksgiving while she and her staff are working in the kitchen.
Since it's the day before Thanksgiving, maybe you want to replicate Akasha’s tradition and remember Michael in the same way: https://MichaelJackson.lnk.to/TheEssential

https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/ ... -about-it/

To be clear - this is not per say 'from the estate' - it's an interview with John Branca. To read the complete article click on the link.

‘ARTISTS NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR LEGACY AND BE VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT IT.’
JANUARY 28, 2021

Immagine

MBW’s World’s Greatest Managers series profiles the best artist managers in the global business. This time, we speak to John Branca, who as well as managing the legacy of Michael Jackson, is also a top music attorney working on/with some of the biggest artists and deals in existence. World’s Greatest Managers is supported by Centtrip, a specialist in intelligent treasury, payments and foreign exchange – created with the music industry and its needs in mind.
John Branca is smart enough to know that his inclusion in this interview is bending the rules a little.
The latest, highly-qualified candidate in MBW’s World’s Greatest Managers series, Branca is nevertheless best known in industry circles as a lawyer – more specifically, a lawyer with a reputation for a super-sharp mind, and a habit of wrestling the best possible deal for artists away from the music industry’s largest institutions.

Over the course of a four-decade career in the music business, Branca has successfully fought – and won – landmark battles on behalf of creators that have set into motion a sustained change in the remuneration of artists and songwriters.

His achievements on this score are genuinely too numerous to list, but they include helping Don Henley win back his copyrights for his work with The Eagles, ensuring John Fogerty could reclaim royalties from his Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog, and extricating artists like Dr. Dre from onerous contracts, leaving them free to set their own future (which in Dre’s case led to the formation of Death Row Records).

“TECHNICALLY WHAT I DO IS NOT PURE MANAGEMENT, IT’S BEING A ‘LAWYER-MANAGER’, BUT IT’S A ROLE THAT CAN BE VERY IMPORTANT TO AN ARTIST WHEN UTILIZED PROPERLY.”

JOHN BRANCA

Branca also orchestrated The Bee Gees’ acquisition of their entire master recording catalog (which in 2016 the band sold/licensed to Capitol Music Group), and, most famously, he aided Michael Jackson’s fight to regain the rights to his recordings. (You can see why Martin Bandier called Branca the No.1 music publishing attorney in the world.)

These days, Branca – a partner at law firm Ziffren Brittenham LLP – says he considers himself a “lawyer-manager” (see; we’re bending the rules, not breaking them), not only overseeing activity involving Michael Jackson, but also helping artists like The Beach Boys renegotiate deals for their catalogs.

“Often what certain lawyers do overlaps or contributes to what the actual manager does,” says Branca. “I don’t compete with managers, we work with managers, but the best use of a lawyer is [for us] to be part of the business team that provides strategic advice, helps plan tours, negotiates record deals and oversees estate planning.

“Technically it’s not pure management, it’s being a ‘lawyer-manager’, but it’s a role that can be very important to an artist when utilized properly.”

In addition to his work representing artists, Branca’s impact in the ‘dollars and cents’ column of the modern music business is hardly inconsequential. It began in 1985, when he helped Michael Jackson buy ATV Music Publishing for just $47.5m – a deal which netted Jackson the rights to The Beatles’ song catalog.

ATV Music Publishing then merged with Sony Music Publishing in 1995 (another deal in which Branca played an instrumental role), leaving Jackson with a 50% shareholding in the consequent company, Sony/ATV.

“MBW HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE RETURN ON JACKSON’S INITIAL $47.5M INVESTMENT IN ATV MUSIC EXCEEDED 2,000% OVER THE COURSE OF 31 YEARS”

In 2016, Sony acquired the Jackson Estate’s 50% shareholding in Sony/ATV for $750m. With yearly cash distributions taken into account, MBW has confirmed, the return on Jackson’s initial $47.5m investment in ATV Music exceeded 2,000% over the course of 31 years.

Branca also negotiated a deal for the Jackson Estate to own a 10% stake in EMI Music Publishing when a Sony-led consortium bought that business in 2012. Six years on, in 2018, Sony bought out the Jackson estate’s 10% stake in EMP for $287.5m, before the major fully acquired the EMP business in a separate $2.3bn deal with Mubadala.

Branca’s complex “lawyer-manager” process and creative thinking has propelled the reinvigoration of the Michael Jackson catalog and brand, with the artist’s posthumous earnings now exceeding $2.5 billion. Jackson’s music attracted over 7.3 billion streams last year alone, says Branca, making him the No.1 streaming catalog artist in the world. And in late 2020, Forbes once again placed Michael Jackson at No.1 on its delightfully-named Highest Paid Dead Celebrities list.

Other huge music business deals in which Branca has played a hand include the formation and sale of Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records, the recent establishment of Saban Music Group, and the sale of Berry Gordy’s Jobete Music – the publishing house of Motown classics – to EMI. The Jobete sale took part across three separate deals: EMI bought 50% in 1997 for $132m; another 30% in 2003 for $110m; and the final 20% in 2004 for $80m. Total deal price: $322m.

Branca also represented Vivendi and Matsushita in their purchase of Universal Music Group in the nineties. And he did two transformative music biz deals – estimated at $50m each – back-to-back in the sale of the Leiber & Stoller catalog to Sony/ATV in 2007 and the sale of Steven Tyler’s Aerosmith publishing catalog to Primary Wave in 2008.

Contemporarily, Branca is busier than ever buying and selling important music catalogs, producing various Michael Jackson ventures (including a film and Broadway musical), and leading the music department at Ziffren Brittenham.

Immagine

Ziffren Brittenham has a strong claim to be the premier entertainment law firm in the world. The power of its film and television division is unparalleled: it counts Pixar, DreamWorks, Barack and Michelle Obama, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Tyler Perry, LeBron James, Idris Elba, Emma Stone, Sacha Baron Cohen, Graham King, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, and the late Chadwick Boseman as clients.

In the music department, Branca and his partners David Lande and David Byrnes represent icons like Beyoncé, Travis Scott, Pharrell Williams, Enrique Iglesias, Justin Timberlake, and Shakira. Branca, Lande, and Byrnes’ expertise in the field of music publishing rights has led to their involvement in a score of publishing catalog sales in the modern marketplace (some of which have been reported, and many of which, says Branca, remain confidential).

They have also been on the forefront of creating revenue outside of the traditional music business, including negotiating deals for music artists such as Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson to become television hosts.

Branca has worked with an array of superstars down the years, including the names mentioned here plus The Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac and The Doors (whom he once supported as a teenage musician in his band The Other Half). But, to a degree, it’s Branca’s relationship with Michael Jackson that continues to define his career.

New York-born Branca began representing Jackson in 1980 – a professional relationship that, aside from one break (which we get into below), lasted until the star’s death in 2009 and beyond. Amongst many direct contributions to Jackson’s career, Branca helped create and co-produce the hugely successful Michael Jackson ONE show with Cirque Du Soleil in Las Vegas, as well as Jackson’s THE IMMORTAL world tour, which ranks in the Top 10 grossing music tours of all time. Branca also co-produced two Spike Lee documentaries: Bad 25 and Michael Jackson: from Motown to Off the Wall.

Branca is, professionally and personally, a fierce protector of the Jackson legacy – and is currently waging a legal war against the Emmy-winning HBO documentary, Leaving Neverland.

The Jackson Estate accuses HBO of “reprehensible disparagement of Michael Jackson” in its suit, whose opening sentence literally reads: “Michael Jackson is innocent. Period.” (The Jackson Estate is seeking to force HBO into public arbitration, alleging that footage in Leaving Neverland saw the AT&T-owned network violate a 1992 contract for a Michael Jackson Dangerous concert film, which contained a non-disparagement provision.)

MBW catches up with Branca on the phone from his Beverly Hills home, where he says he is keeping busy during COVID-19 lockdown by hiking, listening to audiobooks – and making deals, obviously…

AT WHAT STAGE DID MICHAEL JACKSON GET TO OWN HIS MUSIC ON THE RECORDED SIDE, AND WHY DID YOU RE-UP WITH SONY FOR THE DISTRIBUTION DEAL IN 2018?
When I started representing Michael in 1980 right after Off The Wall came out, he did not own his masters – and he was in a contract as a family member of the Jacksons. We renegotiated that deal so he had his own contract and then he put out Thriller.

After Thriller, needless to say, we had a vast amount of leverage. Walter Yetnikoff was the head of [CBS/Sony], and he did the right thing; we were able to secure for Michael ownership for all of his master recordings and his videos.

“WALTER YETNIKOFF WAS THE HEAD OF [CBS/SONY], AND HE DID THE RIGHT THING; WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE FOR MICHAEL OWNERSHIP FOR ALL OF HIS MASTER RECORDINGS AND HIS VIDEOS.”

When Michael tragically passed away in 2009, the deal with Sony – our distribution deal – was almost up. So we were in a position to renegotiate that deal to extend Sony’s term of rights to distribute Michael’s recordings, and then we renewed it again a few years later.

We did this primarily because of Rob Stringer who is one of the industry’s great record executives and who has had a long relationship with Michael’s music, including overseeing the marketing and promotion of Michael’s History album.

Also Sony’s done a very good job with Michael, and they paid us a lot of money! All good reasons.

Immagine
CAN YOU TALK US THROUGH THE SALE OF THE JACKSON ESTATE’S 10% EMI MUSIC PUBLISHING STAKE, BUT ALSO EXPLAIN WHERE THAT LEAVES MIJAC – JACKSON’S PUBLISHING COMPANY WHICH OWNS THE RIGHTS TO JACKSON SONGS AND OTHER HITS? WHAT’S THE FUTURE FOR THAT COMPANY?
I represented Michael in buying ATV in 1985, and we merged it with Sony in 1995, creating Sony/ATV.

I then assisted Sony and Rob Wiesenthal and Marty Bandier in buying EMI [Music Publishing in 2012], but they needed the permission of the Michael Jackson estate [as then-Sony/ATV co-owner] to make that acquisition. As a result, we were able to secure for the Estate an ownership interest in EMI. When Sony then exercised its buy-sell on Sony/ATV and we sold that [in 2016], we retained our interest in EMI, and then when Sony decided to buy out ourselves and Mubadala, we had a very big payday.

“WE RETAINED OUR INTEREST IN EMI, AND THEN WHEN SONY DECIDED TO BUY OUT OURSELVES AND MUBADALA, WE HAD A VERY BIG PAYDAY.”

Mijac remains a very active, thriving music publishing company. We will never sell Mijac in a manner to give up control – it will be passed down to Michael’s children. We just purchased the renewal rights for the Sly & The Family Stone catalog.

It’s not known by many, but Mijac owns some of the greatest copyrights in the history of popular music – things like People Get Ready, Ain’t No Stopping Us Now, When A Man Loves a Woman, and Great Balls of Fire, as well as classic Ray Charles songs, Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson, and many more.

IS IT TRUE THAT GOOGLE SHOWED INTEREST IN BUYING THE ESTATE’S 50% STAKE IN SONY/ATV?
That’s not something I would discuss at this time, but we considered all possible sources of interest.

YOU’VE BEEN CLEAR ON YOUR VIEWS OF LEAVING NEVERLAND. HOW DO YOU VIEW YOUR ROLE IN HANDLING THE LEGACY OF AN ARTIST IN THE FACE OF SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS LIKE THAT?
Never give up. In this era, sometimes very unfair conclusions and opinions can be drawn, based not on fact or evidence, but instead based on a media phenomenon. Unfortunately, the legacy press are not in a position to do their homework or their research anymore. And tragically, deceased artists have no protection under the libel laws, which is completely unfair and must change.

“ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE’RE INSISTENT ON HAVING THIS ARBITRATION IS TO BRING OUT THE TRUTH, AND TO REALLY SAY SHAME ON YOU AT&T AND SHAME ON YOU HBO FOR DOING THIS.”

Media and information travels so rapidly now without verification. In the modern era, especially in the United States, it’s become popular to take a position or opinion without examining the facts. In the case of Leaving Neverland, [in Branca’s opinion] these stories are not true. It’s shocking that AT&T and HBO would do that.

One of the reasons why we’re insistent on having this arbitration is to bring out the truth, and to really say shame on you AT&T and shame on you HBO for doing this.

CLEARLY, YOU’RE COMPLETELY CONVINCED OF MICHAEL’S INNOCENCE. WHAT GIVES YOU SUCH CERTAINTY?
Take a look at the statements made by these two individuals, and then do research that can be independently verified. Michael’s fans have done the research; there have been certain journalists, especially in England, that have done the research. In this era it’s not popular [to do so]; everyone wants to find a culprit. But Michael Jackson is not Harvey Weinstein, he’s not Robert Kelly [aka R.Kelly].

Nobody else [since the movie came out] have made these allegations – doesn’t that tell you something? It does to me.

FROM ACROSS YOUR CAREER, WHICH MOMENT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE, AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM IT?
Michael Jackson fired me in 1990. I was 39 years old, and I didn’t want my career to be over yet. But in the aftermath, I’ve never had so many people hire me – Don Henley, Rick Rubin. Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Robbie Robertson, Matsushita… it was unbelievable. Not only did I survive, but I prospered and I did so because I did the right thing.

“MICHAEL JACKSON FIRED ME IN 1990. I WAS 39 YEARS OLD, AND I DIDN’T WANT MY CAREER TO BE OVER YET.”

So when Michael came back in 1993, I was [professionally speaking] bigger and stronger than ever. But it was a challenge [when Jackson walked away] – a very turbulent time.
WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN – IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS OR OTHERWISE – AND WHO GAVE IT TO YOU?
I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the legends of our business: Jerry Weintraub, Mo Ostin, Irving Azoff, Walter Yetnikoff.

You learn from people like that, especially when you’re younger and you’re coming up. It’s interesting: people think it’s all about lawyers or business advisers giving advice to their clients, but what I learned from Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, Barry Gibb, Brian Wilson, Carlos Santana, Don Henley, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Berry Gordy, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Mike Tyson, Leiber & Stoller… you get a Harvard Business School PHD in the music business. It’s something you can’t buy, there’s only one way to acquire it and that’s by doing it.

I remember when Michael Jackson first hired me in 1980, Clarence Avant, who’s since become known as the godfather of black music, said to me: ‘You can build a career off representing this young man, Michael Jackson.’ I never forgot it, and it was prophetic.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I’d like to see it more about standing up for principles and ideals, social justice, and less about ego and self-aggrandisement.

It’s important for artists to take a leadership role in society and stand up for what’s right; I’d like to see more of that. Social consciousness characterized certain artists in the ’60s, like Bob Dylan for example; Michael then did it in the ’80s by breaking the colour barrier on MTV.

The #MichaelJackson's estate answers questions about Neverland :
Why didn't The Estate remain with Neverland ?
"Neverland was managed by Colony Capital, not Estate. This is due to a contract signed by Michael in 2008. Estate explored with Colony Capital a number of potential options for Neverland, including a donation to the state of California for historic preservation and special events, but none were completed and eventually , Colony decided to sell the property. After discussions between Estate and Michael's sons and their advisers, it was decided that Estate would not buy Neverland and allow the sale to go to Ron Burkle. Given Ron's friendship with Michael and his children, Estate believes that Mr. Burkle will respect the historical significance and special nature of this wonderful property."
Why is Neverland not open to the public ?
"Unfortunately, Neverland cannot be opened to the public. I wish I could. Its location and applicable zoning regulations prohibit its opening to the public. During his lifetime, Michael explored this possibility and faced the fact that it could not be realized. this also respects the laws of that county which prohibits the transformation of property into museums or attractions. Michael agreed to this when he bought the property."
Will Michael Jackson be a permanent museum ?
"Hopefully there's a Michael Jackson Museum. We have explored and will continue to explore this possibility. We are also investigating the possibility that the Hayvenhurst property may be open for limited public viewing and we are optimistic about this possibility. Although this is not imminent, it is something we would like to achieve."

“‘Blue Gangsta’ is an unsung masterpiece, a truly inspired and powerful piece of R&B/pop. The song has a unique and indelible quality and sounds unlike anything Michael Jackson had previously recorded. With dynamic horn blasts, swelling strings and cool accordion strains, the song has a very filmic vibe.” - Funkatropolis

In a recent interview with Associated Press, John Branca spoke about the win with IRS and Wade Robson’s case but reading being the lines, the fans will get something too!
Regarding the IRS Case, Branca said “We’re pleased. We always try to do the right thing. We tried from the beginning to follow the IRS rules and regulations, and relied on the best experts possible. It’s unfortunate that we were forced to litigate to protect ourselves.”
“We’re at an absolute turning point,” Branca said about the Robson’s case. “I think people have come to realize that Michael was innocent of any charges and unable to protect himself.”
Not to mention that the court also charged Wade Robson and James Safechuck to pay the Estate’s legal fees for the cases engaged against the Michael Jackson Estate and businesses.
He also added: “We’ve got a wonderful Broadway play coming, we’ll be reopening our Cirque du Soleil show soon and we’ve got some surprises coming.”

Released on this day in 1992, “Jam” has gone down as one of Michael’s most personal tracks. The coming of age song is one of many hits to come from the DANGEROUS album.

After court victories, Michael Jackson estate eyes revival https://yahoo.com/entertainment/court-v ... &tsrc=twtr via

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Michael Jackson's musical legacy never left, but a kind of comeback is coming.

With a series of court victories that bring the end to serious legal crises, with a Broadway show beginning and a Cirque du Soleil show returning after a long pandemic pause, the Jackson business is on the upswing 12 years after the pop superstar's death.

Very recently, things looked grim. The 2019 HBO documentary “ Leaving Neverland ” raised child molestation allegations anew. The once-dead lawsuits brought by the two men featured in it had been revived by changes in the law. And a decision in the estate's appeal of a $700 million tax bill was taking years to arrive.

“I was always optimistic,” John Branca, the entertainment attorney who worked with Jackson through many of his biggest triumphs and now serves as co-executor of his estate, told The Associated Press in an interview at his Beverly Hills home. “Michael inspired the planet and his music still does. There was never any doubt about that.”

The optimism was warranted. A succession of court decisions came. One accusers' lawsuit was dismissed in October. The other was tossed out in April. In May, a ruling in the tax case slashed the bill dramatically. The estate suddenly stands nearly clear of a dozen years of disputes. That means Branca expects that in the next 18 months it can finally be taken out of probate court and turned into a trust for Jackson's three children, who are all now adults.

And the focus of the estate can now shift back to presenting Jackson to the world.

The first priority is the revival of the Cirque du Soleil show, “Michael Jackson: One” at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. It is slated to reopen Aug. 19 after a coronavirus closure of nearly a year and a half, in time for a major celebration there planned for Jackson's Aug. 29 birthday.

The Broadway show, “MJ: The Musical,” will follow quickly on its heels, the first of several planned projects.

Branca said the delay of well over a year, as happened for all of Broadway, was “frustrating” but he has renewed excitement about “MJ: The Musical” and shared new details.

“It's not a chronological depiction of Michael’s life,” he said. “It’s more impressionistic, inspired by Michael’s life and his music. It takes place as Michael is preparing for a tour and MTV wants to get an interview. Michael’s very press shy, and slowly but surely as they develop a relationship begins to talk about different parts of his life that then get enacted in the show.”

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage wrote the show's book. Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon is directing and choreographing. Broadway newcomer Myles Frost will star as Jackson, after Ephraim Sykes dropped out to shoot a movie. Rehearsals resume in September, and previews begin in December.

Branca said he's proud of the diversity the show will bring to the stage.

“The cast is obviously largely Black,” Branca said, "In an era where that’s sorely wanted on Broadway.”

Successes aside, Branca feels lingering bitterness about director Dan Reed's “Leaving Neverland” and what he felt were American media outlets that “don’t have the time or the wherewithal to do the research to figure out what’s true and what’s not true.”

Hence, the estate's last lingering lawsuit, now in private arbitration, is one that it brought itself, and one Branca very much wanted filed, against HBO over the documentary.

“I was very angry at HBO and Dan Reed and I still am because here’s the thing: You can say anything you want about somebody who’s dead. They’re not here to protect themselves," Branca said.

The two men featured in the documentary are appealing the dismissals of their lawsuits. HBO has defended “Leaving Neverland” as a valid and important piece of documentary journalism.

Ironically, the victory handed to the estate in its tax case came in part because the judge believed the value of Jackson's image and likeness had been severely diminished by such allegations at the time of his death, despite his acquittal at his 2005 trial for child molestation. It was one aspect of an all-around victory for the estate that's bringing a far smaller bill that's being calculated now.

Under the guidance of Branca and his more behind-the-scenes co-executor John McClain, the estate has brought in $2.5 billion in revenue in the past 11 years, and Jackson has remained the top earning deceased celebrity every year since his death at age 50 from a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol.

But Branca says the way Jackson's musical legacy echoes through modern artists may be his most impressive legacy.

“Kanye West, Drake, Beyoncé, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande — they all point back to Michael,” Branca said. “His influence is really enormous.”

This story has been corrected to show Jackson's birthday is Aug. 29, not Aug. 27.

“I remember having a conversation with him, we were in Hong Kong, and I was like, ' Michael, maybe for the next album, instead of trying to outdo yourself and compete with yourself, maybe you should go to the left and think of something a little different, like making an album with the songs that inspired you to become an artist. Songs by James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone... ”

The Michael Jackson Estate made a whopping $2 Billion in 13 years
as they submitted their audit Business papers.
The papers also confirmed payment notice for over a a quarter of a billion from Michael’s EMI Music rights sale to Sony. The paperwork confirms that Sony bought the pop star’s ten percent lifetime rights to the EMI catalogue for a staggering $287.5 Million.
The accounts detail the money will secure Michael’s children’s future.
The net value of Michael Jackson’s property, cash accounts and earnings overall is $883,423,593.76.
The turn around, led by Estate executors John Branca and John McClain, show that Prince, Paris and Blanket will be multi-millionaires for life.
Estate lawyer Jeryll S Cohen said in court papers: “The Executors have been able to create exceptional and unique opportunities that did not exist at the time of Michael Jackson’s death to generate substantial revenue. As of December 31, 2021, the Estate generated gross earnings exceeding Two Billion Dollars. With the assistance of their counsel, the Executors have successfully rebuilt and enhanced Michael Jackson’s image, solidified the MJJ business as a significant entity in the entertainment industry, entered into… unprecedented business deals that have produced… significant revenues for the Estate, and have settled or disposed of most of the creditors’ claims and litigation.”
Cohen went on to explain the executors had renegotiated many of Jackson’s debts and “continue to provide uninterrupted support for Mrs. Jackson and Michael Jackson’s children as Michael intended.”
The legal papers show that all the family homes mortgages and expenses of the 3 children and grandmother Katherine are covered fully. Prince’s university fees and Blanket also had their schooling covered.
Under an LA court deal TJ Jackson, is the kids’ guardian – and receives a third of a million dollars a year for this. Court dockets show that TJ was reimbursed for vacations with the kids at a cost of over $75,000 which also included him taking family members. The estate also covered TJ for his petrol costs, handing him a free fuel allowance.
Legal papers showed that Prince, Paris and Blanket were handed at least $14,500 in cash for their holidays with TJ.
Katherine was handed an “allowance “ of $2,140,911.75 in a year. She was served up around $130k in unspecific “Medical Services”. Her LA law firm were paid over $1.1m in unspecified legal fees.
Other interesting notes on the accounts show Paris spent almost a quarter of a million dollars on construction for her pad.
Prince spent around $225k on building work and security for his Los Angeles Valley home. The home shared by Katherine and Blanket clocked up annual expenses of around $111k.
While thousands are spent on lawyers and accountant fees, according to the papers, estate executors John Branca and John McClain’s shrewd dealings saw funds grow by $2,234,192.75 through bank account interest and investment growth.
However it could be years before the business dealings of the late King Of Pop can be removed from an estate set up.
Cohen wrote: “Although the Executors have made substantial progress in resolving creditors’ claims and litigation, there remain challenging tax and legal issues such that the Estate is not yet in a condition to be closed.”

#BreakingNews #MichaelJackson estate fights late pop star's mother Katherine over secret settlement, claim Paris and Prince have no problem with proposal.
April 17, 2023
The executors of Michael Jackson's estate returned to court to fight the late pop star's mother, Katherine , over her attempt to shut down a potentially lucrative deal.
According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline, the estate, led by John Branca and John McClain , is asking a court to dismiss Katherine's objections to the proposed transaction.
As we first reported, in November, the estate asked the court to approve a deal they had secured. Branca and McClain explained that they "have an opportunity that they believe is a substantial advantage to the Estate and in the best interests of the beneficiaries."
Branca and McClain have been in charge of Michael's estate since his death on June 25, 2009. The beneficiaries of the estate are Michael's three children, Prince , Paris and Blanket .
However, Michael's will made sure to provide for his mother Katherine for the rest of his life.
The estate did not provide details of the settlement in question. A couple of months later, Katherine filed an objection to the deal. Her filing was sealed by the court. She has yet to publicly disclose her reasoning.
Now, in a new filing, the estate has asked the court to dismiss Katherine's plea and allow them to move forward with the deal.
Already a decade ago Katherine then went after MJ executor John Branca -- saying, "Mr. Branca was a man that my son was very worried about."
She added, "Michael told me on more than one occasion that he did not like this man and did not trust him, he told me that John had stolen from him."
Katherine continued, "This lawsuit is exactly the type of awful thing that Michael said he was capable of doing."
