Hey @TheEllenShow! I slept in MJ's bed in Vienna, in 1997. After his concert, he saw me and other fans sleeping on the ground in front of his hotel. He woke me up at around 1:00AM, and saw that I was cold and gave me the entire bed set of the Presidential Suite of Hotel Imperial.

He had one habit that shows his character and way of thinking: He used to flip over beetles that had ended up on their backs. We were out walking with him when he was in Ireland and he turned around every beetle that he saw. My friendhas a phobia and couldn't understand why on Earth he would do that. Michael just said, "Everyone has the right to live. Everyone has the right to a second chance".

Michael Jackson Greece

Michael’s “Gone too soon” and his precious friendship with Ryan White.
Dear fellow Moonwalkers, tonight we are here to address a very sensitive and touching issue, Michael’s precious friendship with Ryan White. Through this article, we will extensively talk about Ryan’s story, how he met with Michael and helped each other grow, as well as Ryan’s death and Michael’s beautiful tribute to him with his own rendition of “Gone too soon”.
Ryan White was an American teenager from Kokomo, Indiana who was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 1984 after being infected from a contaminated blood treatment and was initially given six months to live. While it was pretty clear that Ryan was infected with the disease because of malfunction and irresponsibility inside the health care system, people were still very ignorant about HIV at the time, believed it to be something extremely contagious and stigmatized people who contracted it by either making fun of them or by treating them as if they were a threat or a germ for the society’s safety. In this case and although doctors insisted that Ryan posed no risk to the students, parents and teachers in Kokomo used everything at their disposal to forbid him from ever returning back to school, actually fighting against a teenager’s will and right to life and education. While eventually and after many legal battles that gained international media coverage Ryan successfully earned his right to go back to school, he faced many obstacles and was miserable. “The school required him to eat with disposable utensils and use separate bathrooms. Threats escalated and when a bullet was fired through the family’s living room, they knew it was time for them to leave.” They moved to Cicero, Indiana where his new principal and schoolmates were highly educated about AIDS and warmly welcomed him in their school shaking his hand. In his book “My Own Story”, Ryan talks about how Michael called him one day and talked about stuff, “stuff I’d talk about to anyone”. Michael invited the whole family in Neverland, where- according to Ryan- had a great time meeting and playing with Michael’s monkeys and riding around the property. Michael and Ryan found in each other the special friend they were looking for. Healthy respect for each other’s privacy, normality in their discussions, playfulness, understanding and having fun are only a few of the characteristics that defined this pure and genuine friendship. “I felt very comfortable around Michael because I could see he was just as shy as I am. He seemed like a regular person to me.” When it was time for them to say goodbye, Michael hugged him and told him: “Never give up. Do it for me.” As fans, these words hit really hard because we know the heart of gold that Michael had and we wish that someday the world will recognize it. When Ryan’s health deteriorated, he remained unconscious, in critical condition in the intensive care unit and was not expected to live long. As soon as Michael was informed about it, he wanted to fly to Indianapolis that same night, but Ryan’s mother Jeanne told him that according to the doctors Ryan wouldn’t last for so long. The next morning Michael arrived at the family’s home in Cicero and visited Ryan’s bedroom which was full of his posters, collections and everything he had given him. Seemingly devastated that he wasn’t able to be there when Ryan was still alive, Michael sat in the car that he had bought for Ryan and turned on the CD player. “Man in the mirror”, Ryan’s favorite song began to play and Michael asked Jeanne: “I was the last person that Ryan was listening to?” After Ryan’s death, Michael told Jeanne that what brought him and Ryan so close was that “nobody ever acts normal around me. Ryan knew how I wanted to be treated because that’s how he wanted to be treated.” When asked about their friendship, Ryan’s mother Jeanne said: “Michael was amazed that Ryan never talked about his illness. And he said he never wanted anybody to feel sorry for him. So I think they really had this good communication of respect for each other.”
Due to Ryan’s untimely passing, Michael couldn’t fulfill his promise that he would be in his next video so he decided to dedicate a song to him as a tribute, “Gone too soon”. In general, “Gone too soon” is a song that was performed by Dionne Warwick in memory of artists that had passed away but Michael was the first one to actually record it and popularize it. He co-produced it with Bruce Swedien and it was the final single from Michael’s eighth studio album “Dangerous”. It was released on December 1, 1993, on World AIDS Day. “Ryan, I promised you I would do something in your honor on my next album. I want the world to know who you are.” were Michael’s words when standing next to Ryan’s casket in his funeral. The song talks about the fragility of life with lyrics such as “like a rainbow fading in the twinkling of an eye” and “like the loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon”, deeply touching our hearts. “Here one day, gone one night” also shows how frail the human existence really is that everything can change in one second and the person we love will be gone forever. He also compares human loss with a sunset “dying with the rising of the moon, gone too soon”. The music video included footage of Jackson and White together as well as brief moments from Ryan’s funeral. Michael closes the song with the following lines: “Bye Ryan. We all miss you very much. Goodbye.” He sang it live at President-elect Bill Clinton’s inauguration celebration where he addressed the AIDS issue and pleaded the president to ensure that research will be done “to eliminate this awful disease that took my friend and ended so many promising lives before their prime.” Michael wanted Ryan’s life to have “meaning beyond his passing”. Usher also tearfully performed the song live during Michael’s funeral in July 2009.
Let’s not forget that Michael was the only one at the time of Ryan’s struggles who was brave enough to stand up and was not afraid to befriend a person with HIV/AIDS. When other people treated HIV people as animals who did not deserve a chance to live a normal life, Michael embraced Ryan like a friend or more like a son and guided him through his most difficult and draining moments. It is certain that Ryan spent the last years of his life with dignity thanks to Michael’s endless support and that Michael never forgot the one friend who treated him like a normal human being. Hopefully, these two now share pure moments of joy in heaven like they did here on Earth, knowing that they changed the world for the better.

#StoryOfTheDay...On November 12, #MichaelJackson was welcomed to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital, the main children's hospital in the city and state of Victoria (where Melbourne is located), where he met 4-year-old Angela Darlington and her mother Helen. More than twenty years later, Helen recalled the visit, which the patients were instructed to keep secret.
"My daughter, Angela, was in the hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car. One day, the nurses told us that Michael Jackson was coming to visit. We had to keep it a secret so the hospital wouldn't be overrun with fans. There was a big commotion when his assistants came to distribute T-shirts and signed copies of his Bad album to the whole department. Then he arrived, went around and talked to the patients. ...] I said hello to him. He told me he was happy to meet me. I was amazed. He was very sweet and seemed shy. I felt that he had a deep love for children, especially those who were injured. Then he crouched down and said, 'Hello, Angela. She couldn't speak because she had just come out of the coma, but she started to smile. After that day, she started to get better. I think of him as an inspiration. We had just gone through a terrible time: Angela was in the hospital and I was calling Lifeline [a telephone number in Australia for people in difficult times and a suicide prevention service] to pull myself together, but that day he was a total inspiration to the whole service. I thought, 'Thank you God for sending him. He had such a presence and great empathy for the people who needed him. Angela is now 25 years old, in university and full of life. There was another boy in the service who was about 15 years old and he was a big fan. After Michael's visit, he started getting better too. His mother thought it was a miracle. I think a lot of children's health improved after meeting him. I think people should know this side of Michael. I never thought he was anything but a good person. "
A few days later, on November 18, back in Sydney, Michael Jackson went to the Children's Hospital in Randwick, a suburb southeast of downtown Sydney. The hospital is one of Australia's leading children's medical centers. Natasha Land, mother of one of the children hospitalized at the time, spoke about this visit after Michael's disappearance.
"I will never forget that day, for as long as I live, when Michael came to the hospital with many stuffed toys, which he so generously gave to all the children on the children's ward. He walked around the ward, visited each child and kindly gave each of them words of comfort. I will never forget the joy of the children, the medical staff and the parents who were there that day.
Nine years later, as his HIStory Tour passed through Australia, Michael Jackson again visited both hospitals, first in Sydney on November 17, 1996 and then in Melbourne on November 25, with his arms full of gifts at Randwick Children's Hospital.

November 18, 1987. #MichaelJackson went to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick, Australia, where his daily routine of giving gifts to children, signing autographs and chatting with families continued. Natasha Lang, the mother of a child committed in the hospital at the time, spoke of his visit there years later: “I will never forget that day as long as I live, when Michael came to the hospital with an abundance of stuffed animal toys, so generously given, to all the children in the children’s ward. He went around the ward and visited each child personally and quietly spoke words of comfort to them and I will never forget the delight of these children, the medical staff and the parents who visited on that day.
My son now is a grown man and I wish to share this photograph with the whole world because it shows Michael’s selfless and generous nature. My son, unfortunately, lost his eye in a school accident that week and, as you can imagine, it was a real tragedy for the whole family, but that day he gave us all some joy, great pleasure and an abundance of happiness. “Michael, I know that you are with the angels and may God Bless your soul and, rest assured, you will live in our hearts forever. Thank you for the music.”

On July 18, 1996, #MichaelJackson visited South Africa for a few days, he arrived in Johannesburg, where he attended a private birthday for then President Nelson Mandela on the mentioned date. Nelson Mandela invited an estimated 2000 children to the party and posed with the singer before cutting a birthday cake for his 78th birthday at Hilton College in Kwazulu-Natal. Jackson has taken time off from touring, to visit South Africa where he also reveals he is writing a song about him. Mandela, stepping out on to a patio to greet the media, turnes to Jackson and says, “I can see who is the world leader. I have never seen so many journalists!” While in South Africa, Michael Jackson also visited the black township of Soweto, where he layed a wreath of flowers at the memorial to honor the youngsters who were shot dead by South Africa’s security forces during the 1976 Apartheid riots, and renders a bouquet of white roses, carnations and lilies in remembrance of 11-year-old leukemia victim, Jaymee Bowen. Meanwhile, the highest bid for a Neverland visit on behalf of the star is obtained at the “Cities in School” celebrity auction and, with the aid of radio “KIIS-FM” in Los Angeles, 115,000 dollars are delivered to school pupils.

#OnThisDay in #HumanitarianMJ #HIStory:
November 22, 1987.
In 2010, Riverstone Aboriginal leader Vilma Ryan broke a 22-year pledge of silence to speak about her encounters with #MichaelJackson. Mrs Ryan, 70, arranged for the star to visit Murawina Preschool at Redfern when he was in the country during his 1987 tour in support of the Bad album. She said she had been sworn to strict secrecy. "Michael was very interested in Aboriginal affairs, especially black deaths in custody, but didn’t want to alienate his fans,” Mrs Ryan said. At the time of the visit, Mrs Ryan worked as director of the centre. She said she had been told the visit would have been cancelled if the press found out. ‘I was also warned not to publicize it even after his return to America,’ she said.’ That’s why it was never reported.’ ‘It was the highlight of my life and my biggest secret for 22 years.” Mrs Ryan said she was first invited to meet Jackson at the Regent Hotel in Sydney after she passed a letter to his people at Sydney Airport.” Michael wanted to meet with staff, parents and kids of the preschool after his Sydney concert when I told him about my work,’ she said.’ He gave me 100 tickets to his concert at Parramatta Stadium when I told him our kids couldn’t afford to see his show. He was very polite, soft spoken and respectful during our meeting.’ She said that the day after his concert, Mr Jackson’s people asked her to meet at his hotel and guide him and about 30 others to Redfern.’ I organized a team of Aboriginal women guards to look after his security and instructed them to lock the doors after his arrival,’ she said. ‘He spent about two hours at the centre talking with the kids, their parents and staff.’ She also organized for a group picture later of Jackson with the kids at a Surry Hills photo studio.’ I cried when I heard he passed away and so did many of the kids who met him.” In 2012 Ms Ryan was honoured for her lifetime's work as an activist for justice for Aboriginal people.

January 10, 1989, at the completion of his #BadWorldTour, the "Children’s Wish Foundation", in association with Michael Jackson, donate 100 tickets to critically ill children for each concert.
During his Bad World Tour (as well as other tours of his), he is joined backstage prior to his concerts by children with illnesses from the respective local areas of his performances, with whom the entertainer would pose for pictures and sign autographs to, often, the singer spending time purchasing and assembling playthings he would personally deliver to them the following day, according to Seth Riggs, Michael Jackson's vocal coach.
Michael Jackson invited underprivileged children to watch him perform, and contributes to hospitals, orphanages, and other charities. At every Bad Tour concert, he makes sure that 400 tickets are being reserved for underprivileged children. These tickets will be distributed across hospitals, orphanages and charities. Michael Jackson also donates concert takings to multiple causes. He also brings out several children on stage to dance at the end of each Bad Tour concert. They are usually chosen at each stop from local hospitals or charitable organizations, such as “Make A Wish Foundation”. Then he joins in, dancing like them, while in Los Angeles, California.

#Fact..#MichaelJackson, along with other celebrities of color, contributes to the financing of director Spike Lee's 1992 film, "Malcolm X", a biographical film (released on November 18) about the African-American minister, human rights activist and black nationalist, Malcolm X. The public speaker was shot dead by three men hired by Nation of Islam, while speaking to a meeting of Afro-American Unity, on 'grounds' of the activist's leaving the Nation in favor of Sunni Islam, but particularly of race equality and human rights. The story of the film is based on "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" as told to African-American writer, Alex Haley. Actor Denzel Washington will be nominated for an Academy Award For Best Actor for his role as Malcolm X.

November 30th, 2000. #MichaelJackson attended a charity event for the cancer research " All Star Angel Ball : The Angel Of Hope Award " held at the Marriott Marquis, Manhathan in New York. The event came in contribution for the G&P Foundation. Many celebraties were present as Bill and Hillary Clinton and Denise Rich and many more.
Here Michael Jackson statement :
"Wow, it's incredible. I'm extremely honoured and moved by this gracious award and first and foremost I would like to thank our hostess and my date tonight, Denise, [giggles and smiles sheepishly, the crowd giggles and whistles] who with her beautiful spirit and abundant kindness has quickly found a special place in my heart. My close friend Rabbi Shmuley Boteach introduced me to Denise and I'm very grateful. Thank you Shmuley, thank you so much for making this evening possible for me and for all the important and meaningful projects that we have begun together. Shmuley is also responsible for bringing me together with some of my special guests this evening, Nobel prize winner, Professor Elie Wiesel and childrens' expert, Dr Stanley Greenspan. Thank you for joining me on this special night.
I'm honoured Mr President to receive this award in your presence and I wanna thank you all for years of dedication and service that you rendered to the American people. You have been an incredible president and I love you. [Audience are cheering and applauding loudly] And of course N'Sync. [audience applauds] It's great to meet you guys and it's an honour to receive this award, not only did you make all the girls scream, [audience laughs] but I was also thrilled to learn that you are continuing the tradition that I also believe in, in using your accomplishments to help others with your own charitable foundation.
Cancer is the number one killer of children. And it is only when we join together on evenings like this, that we can summon the courage and determination to stop it from ever robbing another child of the precious gift of life or a parent of the joy of watching their child grow. God bless you all for all the love and support you have offered this evening and I love you all very much. Thank you." - Michael Jackson

#StoryOfTheDay...The song "Gone Too Soon" was released on December 1st, 1993, as the ninth and final single from the Dangerous album, following its release on World AIDS Day of 1993. The Song was written and composed by Larry Grossman and Buz Kohan in the early 80's but was recorded and produce by Michael Jackson and Bruce Swedien on June 1990.
Michael Jackson's version of "Gone Too Soon" was dedicated to the memory of his friend Ryan White, a teenager from Kokomo, Indiana who came to national attention, after being expelled from his school for having HIV/AIDS.
"Gone Too Soon" was promoted with a short music video directed by Bill DiCicco. The footage in the music video featured scenes of Michael Jackson and Ryan White together, as well as brief coverage from White's funeral. Home movies, donated by Ryan White's mother Jeanne, were also shown in the short film. At the time of its creation, Jeanne White revealed that the video for "Gone Too Soon" would demonstrate how much Michael Jackson cared for her ill son.
The song was further promoted with a live performance of "Gone Too Soon" at President-elect Bill Clinton's inauguration celebration, An American Reunion: The 52nd Presidential Inaugural Gala. The pop star dedicated his performance to White, and used the occasion to plead with the incoming president for funding toward AIDS-related research.
"Thank you, mister President-elect, for inviting me to your inauguration gala. I would like to take a moment from this very public ceremony to speak of something very personal. It concerns a dear friend of mine who is no longer with us. His name is Ryan White. He was a hemophiliac who was diagnosed with the AIDS virus when he was eleven. He died shortly after turning eighteen, the very time most young people are beginning to explore life's wonderful possibilities. My friend Ryan was a very bright, very brave, and very normal young man who never wanted to be a symbol or a spokesperson for a deadly disease. Over the years, I've shared many silly, happy, and painful moments with Ryan and I was with him at the end of his brief but eventful journey. Ryan is gone and just as anyone who has lost a loved one to AIDS, I miss him deeply and constantly. He is gone, but I want his life to have meaning beyond his passing. It is my hope, President-elect Clinton, that you and your administration commit the resources needed to eliminate this awful disease that took my friend, and ended so many promising lives before their time. This song is for you Ryan". - Michael Jackson, January 1993.
Here's the story behind the song, which has been revived time and again for times of public mourning.
It was past midnight on a Sunday when the phone rang at the Kohan home. "Sorry, did I wake you up?" a voice whispered on the other line. "Is Buzzie there?"
It was Michael Jackson, who, at the moment, was riding one of the biggest waves of success popular music had ever seen. That month (February, 1983) Michael Jackson was featured on the cover of Rolling Stone; "Beat It" joined "Billie Jean" at the top of the charts; his videos played in a loop on MTV; and Thriller was flying off shelves like loaves of bread.
"Buzzie" was Buz Kohan, renowned television producer and writer (best known for his work on award shows and variety shows, including the Motown 25 special). Michael Jackson first met him when the singer was just 12 years old. Buz lived nearby in Encino on beautiful Beaumont Street. He was a well-known veteran in the entertainment industry, and the two became good friends. Michael Jackson would ask Buz endless questions about legendary figures like Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis and Fred Astaire, the "greats," as he called them. They later worked closely in Las Vegas for the Jackson family's variety show.
"We oughta write some songs together," a teenage Michael Jackson suggested one day. They began co-writing soon after and their collaborations, which included songs like "Scared of the Moon" and "You Were There," continued over the next two decades.
Buz's wife, Rhea, had grown accustomed to Michael Jackson's late night calls. "Just a second," she said, passing the phone to her husband. Michael Jackson was calling that night about a particular song. Earlier that evening he had watched Dionne Warwick (a good friend) perform a tribute on the TV special, "Here's Television Entertainment." It was dedicated to many performers whose lives had been cut short too soon, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Sam Cooke, among others, but its poignancy was especially felt due to the death of Karen Carpenter just days earlier at the age of 32.
"Certain singers carry with them the energy of their time," Dionne Warwick had said. "They become symbols or signposts. They're reminders of our frailties and need to communicate... Tonight we are left with unanswered questions that are asked when any great talent is consumed before its time: Why? What if? And what might have been?"
Dionne Warwick proceeded to sing a moving rendition of a song co-written by Buz Kohan and Larry Grossman. It was called "Gone Too Soon."
Michael Jackson said he wept as he watched. He had grown up with the music of the Carpenters. Their songs were part of his DNA. But that song, there was something deeper about it that he connected to.
That night Michael Jackson told Buz he felt he had to record it some day. "It's yours when you want it," Buz said. In the ensuing months, however, other projects took precedent, including the music videos for "Beat It" and "Thriller." Every now and then, "Gone Too Soon" re-appeared as a tribute number at charity events or ceremonies. In addition to Dionne Warwick's performance, it was later sung by Patti Labelle and Donna Summer. But it was never recorded in a studio.
Years later, in June 1990, Buz and Michael were talking on the phone when Michael Jackson brought up a young boy he had befriended named Ryan White. "He's not gonna live forever," Michael Jackson said. "I wanna do something special for him." Ryan Ryan had become the national face of AIDS at a time when the disease was still severely misunderstood, stigmatized, and feared.
An ordinary kid from Kokomo, Indiana, Ryan contracted the AIDS virus through a tainted blood transfusion (Ryan was a hemophiliac). He was then shunned, taunted, bullied, and threatened with violence by his classmates and community. Fellow students called him a "queer" and treated him like a leper. Members of his local church refused to shake his hand. Neighbors on his paper route cancelled their subscriptions. Eventually, he was forced out of his middle school.
When he heard the story, Michael Jackson reached out to Ryan to offer friendship and support. They quickly became close. Both were so accustomed to feeling different, they said, it was a relief just to feel "normal" for a few hours in each other's company.
Over the ensuing months, they talked on the phone often. Ryan was a remarkably thoughtful, eloquent, and mature teenager. He understood he was hated and feared by many; he understood he had been thrust into a very public role; and he understood he would die soon.
Jackson remembered one night listening to Ryan White at his dining room table telling his mom how to bury him. "He said, 'Mom, when I die, don't put me in a suit and tie," Jackson recalled in an interview with Shmuley Boteach. "I don't want to be in a suit and tie. Put me in OshKosh jeans and a T-shirt.' I said, 'I have to use the bathroom,' and I ran to the bathroom and cried my eyes out, hearing this little boy tell his mother how to bury him."
Michael Jackson knew he couldn't change Ryan's fate, but he hoped to give him some escapism and joy before his time was up. Ryan White and his family made several trips to Neverland Ranch, where they rode four wheelers, ate pizza, and watched a private screening of Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade. "Those trips to California kept me going," Ryan said.
Michael Jackson later bought Ryan a red Mustang convertible, his dream car, for his birthday. Just months later, however, on April 8, 1990, Ryan died.
The next day, Michael Jackson arrived in Indiana. He sat in Ryan's empty room for hours, looking at his souvenirs, clothes, and pictures. "I don't understand when a child dies," Michael Jackson later said. "I really don't." Ryan's mother, Jeane, offered to let Michael Jackson have whatever he wanted as a keepsake, but he told her just to keep everything in his room as it was.
In the front yard was the red Mustang Jackson had given Ryan, covered with flowers from well-wishers. Ryan's sister, Andrea, got in the car with Michael Jackson. When he turned it on, "Man in the Mirror" began to play. It was the last song Ryan had listened to.
When Buz Kohan heard of Ryan's death, he had archivist Paul Seurrat (who compiled and catalogued videos for Michael Jackson) put together footage of Michael Jackson and Ryan together along with Dionne Warwick's rendition of "Gone Too Soon."
Michael Jackson called Buz soon after. "It's perfect," he said. "I love it." Jackson had promised Ryan he could be in his next music video, but they ran out of time. This was it, Jackson thought. He would create a video and song dedicated to Ryan and his cause. I want the world to know who you are, he pledged.
"There's one thing though," Michael told Buz. "I don't do covers. Has anyone recorded it?"
"Nope," Buzz said. "It's been sung, but not recorded. My people have a word for this. Bashert. It was meant to be. It's been waiting for you."
A month later, Buzz was there in the studio at Ocean Way when Michael Jackson recorded the song. As usual, Michael Jackson sang in the dark to fully immerse himself. Sitting by engineer Bruce Swedien at the control desk, Buz got goosebumps as he listened. The lyrics were about the beauty, transience, and fragility of life. The words could easily devolve into cliche and sentimentality in the hands of an ordinary performer, but Michael Jackson was no ordinary performer. "He put his soul into it," recalls Buz. "There was no exaggeration or affect. It was real emotion."...Gone too soon.

#OnThisDay December 4, 1999 Michael Jackson attended a fund-raiser for Whitney Houston's charitable foundation at the 'Marriott Marquis' hotel in Times Square, New York. Many guests were present for Whitney Houston's Foundation for Children Gala. Michael is here sitting at the table with his good friends Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn, Rodney Jenkins and more.
Fox News broke the news. In their release, they state: "Michael made small talk with Whitney and hubby Bobby Brown, then took a center seat and stayed to watch performances by everyone from Petula Clark to Whitney herself. [...] New York radio star Frankie Blue, who later got an award from the foundation, said in his thank you address: 'Michael, I will always be there for you. Let's have a tour and an album in America.'

.December 5th, 1996. #MichaelJackson arrived for the Philippine leg of his #HistoryWorldTour concert tour. on an Air New Guinea charter flight from Perth, Australia. Hundreds of screaming fans lined the street from the Manila airport to the historic Manila Hotel when pop star Michael Jackson arrived.
Michael was met at the airport by the daughter of President Fidel Ramos, Jo Ramos Samartino who welcomed Michael Jackson to the Philippines with a necklace of Sampaguita flowers, the Philippine national flower.
From the airport to the Manila Hotel, the streets were full of screaming fans. Every once in a while, along the way, Michael Jackson's trailer would stop and the pop superstar would come out to shake hands with the fans on the road.
Inside the hotel grounds, peacock-cheeked dancers dancing to the rhythm of Jackson's hits entertained the crowd who were eagerly awaiting Michael Jackson's arrival.
The following days, on occasion of the annual Orphans Christmas Party held at the Manila Hotel in Manila, Phillippines, Michael donated toys to 300 children from different orphanages around Metro Manila, signs autographs and speaks to the medically cared for children; additionally, he made known that a portion of his concerts will be used for renewing a hospital's facilities which he has also visited.
A young orphan boy present at the event says: “I got separated from my mom and siblings. That's how I ended up in an orphanage.… I became happier [after I had received the gifts from Michael]… It feels like… the sadness is gone. I’m not sad anymore.”
Then P.R. officer at Manila Hotel, Gwen Carino, offered a detailed insight on her blog regarding the event and its preparations alongside Michael Jackson himself, shortly after the susperstar’s untimely passing in 2009: “Michael offered to fill up the 300 loot bags with goodies and toys, candies and chocolates.…It was at the Champagne Gardens on Dec. 7, 1996. I was surprised to see him walking towards us, guided by his aide. Michael came up to me as I had to brief him. “Hi, how are you? Thanks so much for letting me in, I know I’m early ’coz I didn’t want to miss the program.” I said, “Are you kidding? Thanks so much for volunteering! Here’s what Michael, why don’t you just sit here and watch the musical numbers before we get into the gift giving. I will have to tweak the program a bit.” He replied, “Sure, anything you say… (pausing to look at my name tag) Gwen!”…Amazing how he patiently sat through the whole program. Carol Banawa, then an Ang TV mainstay couldn’t believe Michael Jackson was watching her perform. She had her red blouse signed by him right after her number. Then followed Stefano Mori’s dance number. Later, his back up singers and dancers came up on stage followed by select kids from different orphanages who danced to the beat of Billie Jean. Oh, the smile on Michael’s face was just amazing. […] He later showed me and [security] Wayne other stuff people would use or pick up on the ground when they couldn’t find paper for him to sign on. One lady made him sign at the back of her elegant, designer Filipiniana gown. One teenager came up to him holding a dead leaf and another one, a popped balloon…” That day, Michael Jackson also made a visit to the pediatric ward of the Paranaque Community Hospital, in Manila, bringing cheer to the children there, as well as to 3,000 admirers who waited for him several hours, reports The Philippine Star. Inside the hospital, Michael Jackson interracted with the young patients and their mothers, shaked their hands and kisses them. He also met with town official
