"Michael’s not flaky or weird like you read in the newspapers. He’s quiet and softspoken. Sometimes he takes a while to say things. He’s gentle and peaceful. He was a nice new friend for me to have."

MJ's most famous concert, Dangerous World Tour Bucharest almost didn't happen. MJ visited a childrens hospital in Romania with poor conditions. He contacted the government and demanded they do something or the show was cancelled. He even offered to pay for it.

Michael Jackson was the first pop star to step on Russia, two years after the fall of the Soviet Union. His first visit to Moscow was in September 1993., it was illegal to buy his songs, as well as other artists.

The passage of the King of Pop in the country was incomparable to anything I had ever seen. To the Russians, America was like another planet and Michael Jackson was the king of that planet.

On this same visit, Michael visited an orphanage in Moscow. ' ' We were warned before he arrived not to touch him, but we did not resist and we put our hands to him. When I was close, he was emitting some kind of aura.

I had to do something to understand what kind of man was to me: an angel on earth. As soon as I had a chance, I came and I gave him a piece of paper, where he signed it, slowly, gently, no problem. Meanwhile, I looked up to him and admired his soul as a child. This explains his attraction to children and their understanding of children's language. As we can see now, the language of the children to him was more comprehensive than the language of adults..."
- Reporting by Sasha Mironov, Nurse of the Children's Orphanage.

Ryan White‘s friendship with Michael Jackson
Taken from the book „My Own Story“ by Ryan White

Ryan was a hemophiliac who became a national poster child for HIV/AIDS in the US after failing to be re-admitted to school following the diagnosis. He became infected from a contaminated factor VIII blood treatment and, when diagnosed at the age of 13, was given 6 months to live.

Then one day Michael Jackson called me. Wow! I didn’t know why he had, except maybe because he’s from Indiana, too. He was in his car he said. „If I lose you, man, I’ll call you back,“ he told me.

It took a while but Ryan finally visited Michael Jackson at Neverland together with his family.
>>He said that Mom was just like his mother. So Mom got up the nerve to ask a mom-type question: „Michael,“ she said, „is it true that you sleep in an oxygen tank?“

>Michael laughed. „Now Jeanne,“ he said, „you know all the stuff that’s been written about you and Ryan.“ „Oh gosh,“ Mom sind. „I understand!“<<

After this visit Ryan and Michael Jackson stayed in touch by phone, sometimes they talked twice a week. One day, Michael had a surprise for Ryan: a red Mustang which was Ryan’s favourite car. Michael had seen him at the ranch, leafing through „Mustang Monthly.“

Ryan’s mom had recorded a phone conversation between Ryan and Michael Jackson. She told him about it right after Ryan had passed and was afraid Michael might be offended, but he said he wished she’d recorded all of their talks.

In fall of 1989 Ryan’s health began to deteriorate. Michael Jackson invited Ryan again to visit him at his ranch. Ryan went right after Christmas and stayed till New Year’s Day.
>>When we hugged goodbye, Michael said: „Never give up. Do it for me.“<<

At the end of March 1990 Ryan was taken to the hospital with a serious respiratory tract infection. As his condition deteriorated, he was sedated and placed on a ventilator. He would not wake up again and died on 8th April.

Magic Johnson Appeared On Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time”
By Carson Mack -May 29, 202
Everyone remembers the popular song “Remember The Time” by the King of Pop. But, do you remember the stars that appeared on the music video? The scene was set in Egypt and featured appearances from Magic Johnson, Eddie Murphy, Iman, The Pharcyde, Tom Lister, and Wylie Draper! Magic played the Herald in the short film. He recalls the great memories of acting alongside Michael Jackson by saying, “That video was so funny. Michael Jackson is the most detail-oriented cat, most professional dude that you would ever want to work with.”

Mourad Mesellaty

#StoryOfTheDay..."He was shy, but serene. A story about the real #MichaelJackson. The other side of the man the media seems to forget.

"In October 1994 I organized a special tour of Memphis for Dutch Elvis fans to participate in the Elvis Tribute Concert. We were aware of the fact that Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley would be present. Through my contacts at Graceland, I was informed if there was a possibility to meet the couple. But, they told me that would be impossible. No one could find the famous couple.

We met in Memphis and at the same time, other famous artists and stars. On October 8th, at the concert, in fact, Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley were introduced by John Stamos to the audience. They were there with Priscilla Presley and Janet Jackson. The audience went crazy and this was a special moment. This was a very special tribute concert.

At the hotel, we met a mother who was there with two children. One of the children was suffering from cancer and would be treated at St. Judes Hospital in Memphis. It was very difficult to see a young woman, knowing that her life would soon be over. Later, during her stay in Memphis, we visited a record store.

Suddenly, we were surprised and stunned. Who was in the store? Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley with a pair of bodyguards! Of course the group that was with me went crazy, but I told them to stay calm. I went to one of the bodyguards and told him I was a travel agent and had 14 Dutch Elvis fans with me and asked if it would be possible to take a picture of Michael and Lisa Marie.

The bodyguard went to Michael. He talked to him, came back and asked, "Where are you from?" I said, "Holland." Once again, the bodyguard went to Michael and talked to him a bit, came back and said, "There's no problem taking a picture, but leave them alone to do their shopping first."

After a while, the bodyguard approached me and told me that we could take some pictures. We took our cameras and put them in position. Michael and Lisa Marie were posing for us. Suddenly, the bodyguard approached me and said, "What are you doing?" I was surprised and I said, "You told us, it would be okay to take some pictures..." The man replied, "Yes, but you can also say hello and talk to them." Then the unexpected happened. We met Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley.

We talked to them for over 20 minutes, we could take pictures and have them sign a CD. I talked to Michael and told him I watched two of his shows in Rotterdam in 1988. He said, "Ah, yes Amsterdam." But then he corrected himself. It was all incredible. He was shy, but serene. We were able to take pictures, as well as other people in my group and he was kind. With Lisa Marie I talked about the fact that I organised the tour with Dutch Elvis fans in Memphis and that I had been with his mother, Priscilla, a couple of times, the first time in Amsterdam.

Other people were not allowed in the vicinity, so we were surprised to talk to Michael and Lisa Marie. After more than 20 minutes, we said goodbye and the couple left the store, leaving us behind.

We immediately went to a photo developing shop. That was incredible. In Holland, the news spread and reached the media. The next day, I went to Graceland. Bridget, the office receptionist, almost fell off her chair. "Wow!" She screamed. I gave her one of the pictures. Later, I heard that she put the photo on her desk and that Priscilla Presley, when she noticed this, also requested a copy of the photo.

Our meeting with Michael and Lisa Marie was special. We were the only people who were allowed to meet and talk with them. But, I already mentioned the mother who was at the hotel with her little daughter!

Last night in Memphis, my best friend, Gerwin, entered the room late at night. I was already asleep and asked what he was doing with that woman. He woke me and I saw that the woman was crying. Gerwin told me that I had to do something. At first I did not understand what he was talking about. Then the story came up:

Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley visited St. Judes Hospital in Memphis and also delivered small gifts for the children. They gave the daughter of the woman they had met at our hotel, a Barbie. But this doll was stolen and although the girl was only 3 or 4 years old, she knew this was something special and she cried a lot. Just giving her another doll would not be an option.

My friend knew that I had my contacts at Graceland and wanted me to do something for this girl. At that moment, I couldn't do anything and the next morning, I would fly to Amsterdam. We gave Mom a couple of pictures from our meeting with Michael and Lisa Marie and I told her, that I would try to do everything to take care of it.

Back in the Netherlands, I immediately sent a fax to Patsy Andersen, Graceland manager, explaining the story. She responded by saying that she would try to get in touch with Michael Jackson as soon as possible. Every day, my friend Gerwin, asked me if I already had any news. I told him that it would probably be easier to get in touch with the president of the US than with Michael Jackson.

On Christmas Eve 1994, my phone rang. It was Bridget from Graceland. For me, it wasn't unusual to be contacted at Graceland and I thought they wanted to wish me a Merry Christmas. However, Bridget put Patsy on the line. She told me she had good news and bad news. The good news was that Michael finally responded and sent a box of gifts to the girl. Patsy went to the hospital immediately. When she arrived at St. Judes Hospital, she learned that the girl had passed away the day before... Patsy got her mother's address from the hospital and reported it to Michael Jackson.

As I learned later, Michael received this shocking news and sent another package with gifts for his mother and another for the girl's sister and called her mother personally. He apologized and talked to that woman for a long time.

This is a very rare but real story about the other side of Michael Jackson and I wish I could get in touch with this woman again''.

On this day,June 23,1994, Michael visits Cab Calloway in a New York Hospital. Cabell “Cab” Calloway III (December 25, 1907 – November 18, 1994) was an American jazz singer and bandleader, and in May, 1994 suffered a stroke leading to his passing six months later.

Michael Jackson held Cab Calloway’s hand during the hospital visit in White Plains, N.Y., and urged the 86-year-old bandleader to recover from a stroke. Calloway, who was hospitalized on June 12, was listed in stable conditon on Friday. Michael Jackson visited Calloway on Wednesday, said Calloway’s youngest daughter, Cabella Langsam.

“We love you. I love you. The world loves you. You can’t do this. You’ve got to fight. You’ve got to get better,” she quoted Jackson as saying.

In the 1930s, Calloway can be seen performing a gliding backstep dance move, the precursor to Michael Jackson’s “moonwalk”. Calloway said 50 years later, “it was called The Buzz back then.”

Excerpt from the article - Michael reached out to help James Brown's partner.

So far, nine of Brown's children have alleged that she 'embarked on a series of duplicitous business machinations calculated to deprive Brown’s children of their rightful interests in Brown’s music under the Copyright Act.'

'I held this man when he had cancer, for 10 years I put up with some heavy duty, not so fun hard stuff, helping his children when he told me not to. Then they betrayed me — and their little brother,' she said.

'I was "Mama Rae" to them, but I’d no idea how much they hated me.'

After being cut-off from Brown's estate by his children, she had to rely on a donation from pop star Michael Jackson to keep her afloat.

'Michael was so nice to me. He was a sweetheart. He said "I’m so sorry what they are doing to you."'

Messaggio da soulmum » 25 giugno 2020, 9:14

"The last time I spoke to my friend Michael Jackson was about a month ago, 3 weeks before his shocking death. He had called me late one night to ask about another of my close friends who he had read about in the news. Laura Ling, a former colleague and friend, was detained originally by North Korean border guards along with her colleague Euna Lee on March 17th. Since then, they have been imprisoned, had very little contact with their families or western officials, and endured a secretive trial at which they were sentenced to twelve years hard labor. At this present moment, it is unclear where Laura and Euna are – whether they remain in a government guesthouse where they were originally held, in a hospital (due to medical problems for both of them), or moved to the infamous North Korean labor camps that many do not survive.

Michael had read some of the details regarding Laura and Euna’s predicament. As was often the case with him and global events he read about – from famine in Africa to victims of natural disasters in far off countries, to orphans created by wars – he felt a deep sense of empathy for Laura and Euna. When I shared with him that Euna had a four-year-old daughter, he was even more anguished.

He asked me whether I had had any contact with Laura. I told him I had written her a few letters and had been assured they were getting through. Outside of that, her own family had only heard from her twice – brief monitored phonecalls – in the over three months they had been imprisoned. When I told him that, Michael paused.

“Do you think,” he said hesitantly, “that the leader of North Korea could be a fan of mine?”

I didn’t really know how to respond. Not much is known about the reclusive Kim Jong Il or “Dear leader” as he is called in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Over the years it’s been alleged he has a thing for Hollywood, certain NBA stars, Elvis, and specific liqueurs. Still, I’d never heard about any connection between Michael Jackson and Kim Jong Il.

Michael said he had seen some pictures on the internet of the Dear Leader. “You know, he wears jackets like mine.”

I couldn’t help but laugh a little. It’s true. Michael always had a fascination with military-like jackets, the types with markers and badges on the collars and shoulders. If you search it online, you will indeed find a lot of images of Michael and Kim Jong Il, similarly bedecked in analogous outfits.

“I don’t really know,” I answered Michael. “But I can try and find out.”

“Please,” Michael responded without hesitantly, “because maybe if he was a fan, I could help get those girls home.”

I explained to Michael that there were larger geo-politics involved, nuclear programs, a new administration trying to assert its foreign policy strategy (Obama), and another one in NK possibly going through some sort of transference of power.

“Yeah,” Michael said wistfully, “but if someone wants to do something good, they just can. They don’t really need to worry about all that other stuff.”

And that was really the end of that conversation. I kept my promise and tried to see if I might find a connection between MJ and KJI, but sadly I wasn’t able to. Before I was able to get back to Michael, the news regarding his tragic passing broke. The tributes and commemoratives began in earnest and have not stopped.

Then the irony occurred to me, the far out bizarre seemingly impossible possibility: there is really only one person in the world today that could make a truly meaningful tribute to Michael Jackson. If indeed Kim Jong Il ever was a fan of Michael Jackson, ever gasped at Michael’s moonwalk, smiled at Thriller, hummed along to the Jackson Five or any of Michael’s countess hits, his pardoning of Laura Ling and Euna Lee and sending them home to their families would be a profound act of compassion, a true tribute to a man whose death has left the entire world in mourning. What a better way to re-invent himself and his own conflicted image than for Kim Jong Il to send a message of hope, forgiveness, and empathy as a commemoration of possibly the greatest icon of our times. It’s an act that would be historic, covered by every news organizations in the world, and be immortalized in the annals of time.

Alas, maybe I’m naïve to have such dramatic hopes for my friend and her colleague, to think that leaders of nations may be influenced by the dying wishes of great artists. Or…maybe not. To me, Michael’s memory will always be as a great friend and mentor. To many around the world, it will be as an iconic and brilliant musical artist. Wouldn’t it be staggering if one Kim Jong Il were to honor him – post-death – as a truly great humanitarian?"

Michael Bearden's Fan Page

Please indulge, as I'd like to share a quick story I was told from my friend, and legend @NileRodgers, as we were catching up recently. ⠀

Nile was working with the #MakeAWishFoundation and a young girl with a terminal illness wanted to meet Michael. She had written a letter. Nile, who knew MJ for a long time, contacted Michael and told him about the letter. He also asked if they could come to the show when he was in NYC. It was the 'Off the Wall' tour. MJ's first solo tour.⠀

Not only did Michael oblige with the tickets, he spotted Nile and the young girl in the audience, made his way off stage while performing, and went over to them to invite them backstage after the show. As you might imagine, everyone wanted to know who the little girl was.⠀

The little girl was able to meet MJ and many of the other celebrities that attended the show. Needless to say, she had the time of her life.⠀

MJ called Nile many months later to work on something in the studio with him when he got back to NYC. MJ asked Nile about the little girl. Michael didn't know she passed away maybe less than a month after the concert.⠀

With everything that goes on in a typical day for MJ, the fact that he even remembered the encounter at all, after so much time had passed is amazing. Yes. ⠀

But, the even more extraordinary thing is that the little girl was actually thankful for her terminal illness! She said that if she had not been stricken with the disease that would eventually end her life, a regular, ordinary person like her (paraphrasing her words) would never have even had the chance to meet MJ in person. ⠀

Think about THAT! How many of us would ever think to flip it like that?! That story blew me away when Nile told it to me.⠀

The last thing MJ said to me was, "God bless you. Love you. See you tomorrow." (We said that almost every night) And, I never saw him again. I just assumed I would.⠀

Never take ANY of this for granted! Every day is a complete blessing! No matter the circumstances on the outside. I am embracing even more gratitude today and every day moving forward. I'd like to be as profound and inspiring as that little girl when i grow up!⠀

Miss you dude! You are loved!

"I asked him, “Michael, how can you do that? How can you spend the time with these children who are dying and then go from that, on stage and give that kind of performance?” He said, “How could I not? If these children want to see me, I know I’m not important, but Michael Jackson the superstar is, and if I can make a child live an extra minute or an hour or a day or a month, then wouldn’t that be worth it?” Michael was always that way. If he would get a call from somebody and a child was dying, he would get on a plane and go and he would tell them, I’m going to be back in 2 weeks to see you,’ and alot of the times he extended little kids’ lives that way. It gave them something to look forward to down the line. You have to admire something like that." #DavidNordahl, artist

"Pecky,

I very, very seldom write letters, but in this moving occasion I couldn’t help myself. I want to thank you for putting the effort forward to capture the magic and excitement of the people of the world. What you do is a very personal and powerful medium to me. It is the art of stopping time, to perserve a moment that the naked eye cannot hold, to capture truth spontaneous truth, the depths of excitement in human spirt. All else will be forgotten, but not the films. Generations from now will experience the excitement you’ve captured; it truly is a time capsule.

I will not be totally satisfied until I know you’re at the right angle at the right time, to capture a crescendo of emotion that happens so quickly, so spontaeously. What you have done was good, but I want the best, the whole picture, cause and effect. I want crowd reaction wide lens shots – depths of emotions, timing. I know we can do it. It is my dream and goal to capture TRUTH. We should dedicate ourselves to this. The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. That is dedication. There is no other way to perfection than dedication, perseverance. Just tell us what you need to make it happen. Take the leadership to direct the other cameramen.

I enjoy working with you that is why I asked you to come, you have a gentle spirit that’s very likable. Maybe I look at the world through rose colored glasses, but I love people all over the world. That is why stories of racism really disturb me. You hurt my heart and soul when you told me of your boyhood in Texas. Because in truth I believe all men are created equal. I was taught that and will always believe it. I just can’t conceive of how a person could hate another because of skin color. I love every race on the planet earth. Prejudice is the child of ignorance.

Naked we came into the world and naked we shall go out. And a very good thing too, for it reminds me that I am naked under my shirt, whatever its color. I’m sorry to bring up such past news, but in the car I was hurt by what you said. I’m so happy that you have managed to overcome your childhood past. Thank God that you’ve graduated from such beliefs of ignorance. I’m glad I’ve never experienced such things. Teach your kids to love all people equally. I know you will.

I speak from my heart saying I love you and all people, especially the children. I’m glad God chose me and you.

Love M.J."

“Michael wanted to revolutionize the way tours were being done. He was always thinking like a great producer, too. He was telling us we needed to design a way to maximize the audience that could see him with less travel time for him and the company. So, he proposed setting up the show for 2 or 3 months in a single location, make that portal, as opposed to being on a plane, jumping from city to city twice a week. Just as he did on the History Tour, when we went to Northern Africa. The idea was to get up in a region that was struggling and could really benefit economically from having us there. Everything Michael did came from a place of love and commitment to do good. That’s the way he was with us working on the show. You felt like you were being nurtured, constantly stimulated and encouraged to come up with the best ideas in a collective situation. And that’s where his art was coming from. His concept was not just to make a great song you could dance to. His way was to reel you in and get your attention so then you’d get the deep message. That was the science to it. That’s why his music transcended generations, appealed to children and older people…everyone.” #TravisPayne

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson wanted to help the people in need at every opportunity. While in Italy on his Dangerous Tour in 1992, Michael donated over 821 million Italian Lira (about $500,000) to “La Partita Del Cuore (The Match of the Heart), an annual soccer game played by the Italian National Singers, an industry organization dedicated to charity. 1992 was the inaugural year of the event. Since then, the organization has staged charity games throughout the world.

Early winter along the ridge of Santa Ynez hills. It was the 1st time we could touch the horses that were rescued from abusive ranch. #MichaelJackson's anonymous generosity made it possible. MJ touched 1 mare’s face
& began 2 weep & in a
low voice..he spoke

July 14, 1984. Leroy Robinson Jnr was just eight years old when he was given weeks to live by doctors because of a brain tumour. When The Jackson’s Victory tour hit Dallas, Texas, #MichaelJackson arranged for bed-ridden Leroy and his family to be transported in an ambulance to the concert, where the boy watched the show from an ambulance stretcher side-stage. The family were also transported back to Michael’s hotel where Michael met & chatted with the family and gave Leroy a signed white glove. Leroy’s father recalled that Michael asked to be kept updated on Leroy’s progress and kept in contact with the family for the next two years. “I’ve never seen my son so happy. For him it was like winning a million dollars. Since meeting Michael, Leroy’s health improved dramatically, they have taken out the intravenous IV from his arm & before the concert he needed full-time nurse care, but within two months of meeting Michael, he was able to go back to school & even ride a bike! Leroy lived for another 2 years before passing away.

July 22nd, 1981, the Jacksons are hosting a special benefit concert for the Atlanta Children's Foundation at the Omni Auditorium in Atlanta, Georgia. All proceeds go to the Atlanta Children's Foundation. They raise $100,000 for the charity after long episodes of disappearances and murders of black youths in the city mentioned. Speaking for himself and his brothers,
Michael Jackson reveals: ′′ We do this because we care. LeBaron Taylor, Vice President and General Manager of Divisional Affairs for CBS Records, distributor of Epic Efforts for whom The Jacksons work and coordinator of the special event comments: ′′ We are pleased that The Jacksons I have scheduled this special performance for such a worthy cause.
