A host of Irish artists have joined musical forces for a cover of a classic Michael Jackson hit to raise funds for a suicide prevention charity.
Dublin singer Ryan O’Shaughnessy, X Factor finalist Mary Byrne, pop/rock group Taken, folk band Heroes in Hiding and the Dublin Gospel Choir have combined their talents as group Future Hope – and their sights are set on the Christmas number one spot.
Host of Irish artists have combined their talents for the Pieta House single
Proceeds of the ditty will go to Pieta House Suicide and Self Harm Crisis Centre, which has helped almost 28,000 people rebuild their lives since 2006.
One in four people will experience mental health problems each year and last year some 451 people died by suicide in Ireland.
Singer Ryan O’ Shaughnessy said of the single: “I got involved because I feel it’s important for Irish people to discuss mental health. It’s important to give what you can to help those who need it.”
Brian Higgins, Pieta House CEO said: “You Are Not Alone’ and ‘Future Hope’ are both sentiments that we at Pieta try to espouse to the people who come through our doors. We would encourage everyone to download or buy the single so that it can be a real contender for this year’s Christmas number one in Ireland and more importantly, in doing so, raise funds to support our services into the future.”
Pieta House has 18 centres across the country, offers suicide bereavement counselling and operates the free 24-hour 1800 247 247 suicide helpline.
The song is available to download now across all major digital platforms iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Spotify.
